I stayed 1 night with a group of friends. The landlady was lovely but her husband didn't seem to like people.  

It was all 'OK' - the whole guesthouse just needs money spent on it to refurb it and freshen it up.

There was a bar but this was closed so we sat in a local pub and eat there.

I wouldn;t go back

Our Room No.3 had the most beautiful views up and down the River Wye. Unfortunately, that was really the only thing that kept us there. We only stayed one night, our room was tired, dirty shower curtain, damaged bath- it was badly scratched and stained, you wouldn't want to bath in it. The shower took 15 mins to regulate a safe and comfortable temperature, either freezing cold or scolding hot. The bed was very hard for us and the general lackluster in furniture and drab curtains, stained carpets, really not what you would expect in a 4 star property. The owner was pleasant and welx where awful. The tea was grey!  On the day of check out- (which I was sure was 11am). At 10.34am a knock on the door ' come on guys, 10.30am check out' by a grumpy man, we came straight out but couldn't see anyone. We left our key on the front desk and shouted good bye- as could hear shuffling around, nothing and no response. Sadly we wouldn't return, but we will return to Symonds Yat as it's just stunning! 

Could be amazing!

This guest house is in a lovely position. The staff seem friendly although there are more notices around the place about what you can't do than what you can do! 
This guest house is tired, it needs a big overhaul. We had a 'deluxe room" which was large with a vast amount of wardrobes and drawers. You could never fill them!! The bathroom was also large with a bath but no shower, which is poor. There was a 'telephone' like handheld shower over the bath that dribbled out very cold or very hot water and was unusable. The room was shabby, curtains ill-fitting and the room needed a good clean. The breakfast, a full English, although large, was tasteless and disappointing, frozen cheap sausage, cheap beans, frozen black pudding, and tough bacon. The fruit on offer was also frozen with some fresh apple sliced up. Breakfast was available at 8.15 or 9.oo am, no leeway given which is unusual.
The cost of this stay was £100 + it is not worth that amount. The info about the guest house states that it has canoes available, this is not true. It also states that it has a bar, which is also not true, it was closed for renovation although I suspect it is rarely available as everything was all boxed up and looked as if it had been closed for a long time. We were there mid-summer and the place was locked up. Games are available according to the info pack, but you have to pay to hire them ! Internet access is poor to non existant and although the owners state that they have problems the hotel next door had excellent coverage., we went to the hotel next door to use their wifi. We did not see any anyway. All in all, disappointing because its setting is superb. I definitely would go to the hotel next door, it's cheaper and far more amenities.

Tired hotel, vastly overrated

My wife and I booked a midweek stay Monday till Friday in this great location. Turned up at about 2:30 and the place was deserted, no one on reception so we sat outside for 20 minutes until a car pulled up with the owners who seemed to be annoyed because we were early!The room was nice and bright with a king size bed and one of the best views from a hotel window I have seen.This place is good for relaxation as there is no noise or light pollution , just the sound of the river and the birds.It is also good for local attractions, Goodrich castle 5 minute drive , clearwell caves 10 minutes and canoeing centre around the corner.There were a few downsides to our stay,especially the landlady banging on our door and whingeing about a couple of dirty towels and me having to explain what the different stains were ( dust From our cave trip and some hair dye that washed out in the shower).Got charged £ 12 for these and we were scared to use the towels in case of any further repercussions. She took the good towels and left some old ones with holes in cause she didn’t want us dirtying the nice towels up and our bed wasn’t made for the duration of our stay.A choice of cooked breakfast is provided which you order the night before. The sausages are bland and tasteless and they skimp on the mushrooms, even asking for extra I only got three, there isn’t a uk shortage that I know of. On the end we got the vegetarian breakfast just for the sausage , which probably had more meat in than the normal ones they were dishing up.There was a lounge with a bar in it , but it was out of bounds to guests! Apart from this , we had a lovely break and would come back if it had different owners as we like to feel welcome, this is why I stay in hotels , not guest houses. If I want to get harassed by the landlady I’ll go to Blackpool.

Great location 

We recently stayed here for 3 nights and with our room having a river view it was just so beautiful. Symonds Yat East was heaving when we arrived on the Sunday but afterwards it was lovely and quiet. Access can be difficult because of the narrow road but it's worth it.

The hotel itself was almost perfect our only complaint being that our bed was hard. Josie & Stephan are perfect hosts, the breakfasts were good and the place was spotlessly clean. We would certainly come back.

Forest View's location is also ideal as you can walk along the river by way of the old track bed to Monmouth, take a cruise along the river Wye or take the hand operated ferry across the river to Symonds Yat West. Be warned, eating out at the Royal Lodge and Saracens Head which are a few minutes walk away is a little expensive as the place is a tourist trap!!

So beautiful

Just spent the weekend at Forest View. Lovely, comfortable, clean and quiet. Plenty of parking. Great location. Superb breakfast with a special for choice.
Josie and Steve run a fabulous place, it's a shame they will be leaving. Here's hoping for continuity with new owners.

Excellent!

The location of this guest house is fantastic. 

We stayed in room 4 and it was very nice. The views are to die for and the room was good. The bathroom could do with updating, but was fine for what we needed.

Owners were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent and again, the views from the breakfast room were awesome. Breakfast is in two sittings and you need to order what you want the day before which is fine.

You’re asked not to eat food in your room and it says in the information booklet that there is a corkage charge for any alcohol you drink in your room. There is a bar in the hotel (this was shut when we were there), but there is the Saracens Head and Royal Lodge hotel within very close walking distance.

Fantastic Location

Just back from a night away stayed in room 12 bit dated and i couldnt fill the wardrobes even if i stayed for a month 🤣  but a lovely big room and a lovely big bath...views of the river ....and i slept like a baby and i dont normally away from home with only the river and an owl for company it was lovely...breakfast was lovely ordered the night before attention to detail was noted ...as we both hate tomatoes! 
Stefan gave us some knowledge of the old train line and Jose was friendly and makes sure you are well catered for..she did have a light bulb moment at brekfast ! But it didn't matter to us we had a lovely stay and will definitely return again rich and Belinda...🦅

Night away

If you must go to Symonds Yat and drive the horrific roads to it, this is a good place to stay once you're there. An old style B & B  right off the river with its own partking. Great views.  Clean, pleasant rooms though a bit aged. Very good breakfast and next door to the Royal Lodge where we had to attend. Perhaps if one wants to canoe or hike but don't go on a weekend or holiday. Roads are horrific and dangerous.
