Went here for a New Year Break we found the bedroom very small and the bathroom even smaller, a large person would have problems with the shower as it is very small in room 311, which is a sea view room, for which one pays extra.
We found the food a bit disappointing as we did not feel it came up to the usual standards of Leisure Plex hotels that we have come to expect.
We had entertainment which turned out to be excellent on 3 evenings with bingo included. 
Some selfish people decided that they would reserve the best seats in the entertainment with coats and drinks, so unfair as there are 3 sittings for dinner so the late diners lose out, as there are very large pillars in the entertainment room so one may be stuck behind these, we did bring this issue up with the manager, about the coats.
Not a great selection of beers in the bar.  
Overall apart from these issues we did enjoy ourselves.

New Year Break

We all had a wonderful time. Yes hotel a bit dated but its homely. Staff fantastic and work so hard to make your stay go smoothly. There were issues around standard of food but that was quickly resolved. Entertainment great. Location perfect, right by the sea and not far to the harbour. Bus stops just outside and you can easily travel to other places. 5 of us wanted to book for Nov 24 but sadly fully booked so we've chosen another hotel staff helped us locate as we required 5 single rooms. Didnt want to come home. Well done Alfa for putting on this trip😊

Would go again in a heartbeat!!

Room was OK, but curtains hanging down, bathroom was partly renovated  coving missing,  paint over the windows..... food could have been better. It was a short break away with a coach company. Hotel was in a good position  but no ramp access for wheelchairs etc for disabled

3 star hotel and thats what it was. The rooms were small but you got everything u needed, tea and coffee was restocked in rooms everyday.
Bathroom was small and tight but was acceptable. 
Breakfast was standard but good.
Dinner was ok, had to skip one evening has food was not good. The pasta was basically a big portion of shells with sauce on top. It was not presentable or eatable, shells were uncooked and felt like sauce just dumped on top. Resturant service was slow and staff had to be told few times, until u got ur meal. 
Lift takes forever to come, so u better off taking the stairs.



Basic 3 star hotel

Visited The Imperial Hotel in Ilfracombe on 7th October for 4 nights, booking  with Alpha travel.  We booked a twin room with sea view and couldn't have had better. Huge, warm  room overlooking the theatre and sea. Lovely crisp, white bedding and new carpet. Big bay window and side window. Spotlessly clean bathroom with huge bath and great shower and fluffy white towels.  Food was good and  plenty of choice. Dining room staff were run off their feet, but remained pleasant and very obliging. Entertainment fine except for the corny jokes. Lovely little museum in the gardens opposite  took us back to our childhood.   We were in room 204 and the lift seemed to have a mind of its own and is small ...3 or 4 people comfortably or 6 extremely good friends! Overall a lovely stay with great weather.

Best coach trip in recent years.

This is a very friendly hotel. The room was warm and clean. There was a good choose of food on, and it was of a good quality. Reception could of been a bit warmer but this was also clean. You can walk straight on to the seafront. A bit of an up hill walk to the shops.

A very friendly hotel

Not likely to stay at Imperial Hotel Ilfracombe or travel with Alfa Coach Travels again for that matter. The hotel's customer service is at the lowest level. Staff at reception are very rude and unhelpful. Questions are met with rude stares from the front office staff. There is  a general laxity to attend to customers. Hotel charged me an extra £66 for use of double room for sole use plus a sea view room which had a negligible view of the sea! My room faced a parking lot and the sea is at a far distance.
Service in the restaurant was slow and inefficient . Waiters worked like robots, no eye contact and not ready to check if customers needed help with anything. The chef cannot cook a well done egg! For three times I requested my egg to be well done and was given nearly raw eggs!
My room was not cleaned even after I requested it to be cleaned. The bed was not made, bed sheets and pillow cases were not changed, dirtytowels were just folded and not replaced. Obviously there is no housekeeping supervisor who checks the level of cleanliness in the rooms.
The heating I the room was excessive; the heating control knob was broken which I notifued the receptionist, but nothing was done to rectify the situation. All in all, very poor service and not worth the stay.

Very Poor Service at Imperial Hotel Ilfracombe and Alfa Coach Travels

Heating does not go off during the night, far too hot even with windows open.  Energy crisis!!!!!!!!!!!!
Food not as good as other Leisurplex hotels, never had a hot dinner, all just cool
On the plus side most staff are good.  And the waiters are excellent. 
When asked for simple things like a new bulb, well I’m still waiting!!!
Entertainment mixed some very good others, well depends on your tastes 

Poor average 

Booked through Alfa Coach Travel, for New Year. Had a really good time. Staff really friendly helpful, food good with a lot of choice. Entertainment excellent, best I've come across on a coach holiday. All on all, a really excellent few days away. The only downside is 2 of us came back & immediately went down with Covid

The Imperial Hotel, Ilfracombe

The Imperial Hotel Ilfracombe
We were on a short tour with Alfa Travel in late October 2022.
The Imperial Hotel is in a good location very near the sea front and about 10 minutes walk to the Harbour. Be aware Ilfracombe has lots of steep inclines that makes walking difficult.
The hotel has 4 floors with a restaurant on the first floor, entertainment room and bar on the  ground floor.
There is just one lift to all floors which is only a problem on arrival when the coach disembarks.
The building is a typical old seaside property probably built over 100 years ago, the hotel decor and quality is what you’d expect from a 3 star rating.

Our bedroom was more than adequate with newish modern furniture.
A small flat screen TV, Tea and Coffee, hair dryer, good WiFi connection, our room included a modern en suite bathroom with bath and shower. Plenty hot water on demand.
One comment generally about the bedroom and hotel is that it was very warm, some heating was on in the public rooms.
The hotel staff are very polite and helpful.

Some reviews are critical about the food quality, I think these comments are a little unfair. The food is very comparable to many hotels on the coach tour circuit.
The breakfast was fine, normal hotel full English Breakfast although the service was quite slow. One downside was vending machine orange juice which was foul.
The evening dinners were mostly very good the only downside being some of the vegetables were served unpeeled and undercooked almost raw.
A Chef’s special is offered each day, ordered at breakfast. One day we chose the Chicken Curry and Rice which was surprisingly good.

A nice touch on our free day at leisure in Ilfracombe the hotel offered us a free light lunch of soup and sandwiches, this had to be ordered at breakfast. A good option if staying in the hotel due to poor weather.

The entertainment room was large and comfortable. There is Bingo most nights and entertainment in the form of vocalists about 3 or 4 nights each week. The bar prices were not excessive, Carlsberg at £4 a pint.

Overall the hotel lived up to our expectations for the tour price paid.
A thumbs up for Alfa Travel who organised the trip, excellent day trips and good friendly and knowledgeable coach driver (Wills and his copilot Charlie the Chimp)
