I looked for a decent B&B and I found this place. The bar area was ok but when I was being taken down the dirty carpeted corridor the young lady opened the room and told me that no food was available because of staffing and they could offer  me some leaflets of takeaways.  On inspection of the room,the shower was disgusting, someone had used the toilet.

The bed was the most uncomfortable bed id ever laid on.  The traffic noise was horrendous.  As I lay on the bed I started to itch so I packed up and left.

The person I booked this through was a very nice guy but he just books this awful B & B.

I would never recommend this place.

Dirty B & B (not recommended)

Not to bad for the price could of been worse, they do need to sort the bed out tho as was uncomfortable sleeping on a dip. Nice features in the room as it’s a converted barn. The town it’s self doesn’t have much we ended up eating pizza both nights but it was a storm so can’t complain

Booked to visit for a wedding locally. The owner set a very restrictive times for collecting the keys to the room and we were only able to check in at all due to the help of the bar staff in the pub. 

The room itself was very damp and musty and the bathroom was mouldy and dirty. The rooms are adjacent to a main road and passing headlights and vehicle noise led to a very poor nights sleep.

Initial booking included breakfast and confirmed on email confirmation, but this was not available when we checked in (owner claimed this hadn’t been offered for 3 years). No refund offered for the lack of breakfast. 

For the price of a “premium room” at over £80 per night this was a terrible hotel. A £40 Premier Inn provides superior quality and comfort.

Terrible Visit - Do not stay here

We paid £70 for B&B but discovered that there would be no breakfast and no refund! The guy who books the accommodation was rude and unhelpful saying they hadn’t provided breakfast for 3  years yet breakfast was included on our invoice! We all understand Covid pressures and shortages of chefs but a refund should be given!

The room smelt musty, was noisy all night with passing traffic and the headlights of every passing car lit up the bedroom through the thin curtains. With no net curtains  you had no privacy from the path and road if you opened the curtains. The room and the bedding smelt musty and was very dated. The shower tray was completely surrounded by black mould which was disgusting.

However the barman was very helpful, apologising that no breakfast could be provided and showing us to our rooms late at night even though the booking guy said no-one would be there. Thank you to the barman.

Totally disappointing and would never recommend anyone to stay here

Upon arrival we did not check in immediately and went straight to dinner and then we were taken to the room to be appalled at the condition
There was advanced black mould in the bathroom (if you can call it that) the carpets were badly stained, the extractor fan in the bathroom did not work and was covered in cobwebs, dust and mould and the room had not been cleaned or dusted for what I can assume was for many months.  On top of this the room was very noisy and the central heating had broken and the room was incredibly cold and smelt damp, due to the mould.   We called for one of the staff to firstly try to get the heating to work and they proceeded to remove the valve from the radiator without isolating the water and black water then shot up the bedroom wall and onto the bed.  They did not offer to change the bed then they only offered to change the bedding the following day!  We initially asked for an electric heater but they did not have any. As we had just finished dinner and had a couple of drinks, we were unable to drive and due to the cold, we decided to stay in the room , fully clothed until the early hours of the morning when we felt we could drive.  We were unable to change rooms as the May Garland was fully booked.
 
We have made several attempts to contact them directly via email and telephone but they have not returned any emails or messages

Do not stay here.  Disgusting

My wife and I have just spent two very pleasant days in the area using the May Garland Inn as our base. The Staff at the Inn were attentive and very friendly, eager to be sure our stay would be up to our expectations. We arrived on Wednesday and unfortunately they were not serving food, however, Alex, the barman, was keen to recommend a mobile authentic open fire cooked pizza in which we indulged and it was extremely good. The second night we ate in the restaurant and the fare was excellent, home cooked local produce. In light of the times the hospitality have endured recently our stay can only be described as excellent and I would thoroughly recommend this Inn.

Excellent short stay.

We booked this hotel in late August using a Buy a Gift voucher. The reason for this late review is that I was trying to get some dialogue with the owner but alas no response.  The initial booking and contact was good however .. the room was poor.  By the time we returned to the room in the evening the reception staff had finished for the night so we were unable to be moved. The en suite shower tiles were covered in black mould. The bedding was dirty - historic coffee rings were on the sheets and there was debris ??? in the bed. The TV wasn't fixed properly to the wall and the window handle were broken meaning that the double glazing was ineffective. Given the state of the accommodation we left the hotel and cut short our trip to the area and travelled home. I have emailed on three occasions to discuss this with the owner and have had no response. Even the bar manager said he couldn't disagree with me concerning the state of the rooms.  My last contact (today) on the phone with the owner was that it doesn't matter what I think,  it is a pub with rooms and its only a small B & B and he hung up ...charming!!!! My only conclusion is that they are happy to take your money/voucher but will not discuss any issue - do not use.

Dirty room, poor customer service

I had a party of 15 last Saturday for my birthday and to be fair I was a little bit dubious. However, the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They were all amazing and the food was absolutely delicious too! I would definitely recommend. We will certainly be going back.

Booked for dec last year but COVID stopped play. Didn’t want to lose deposit so postponed to Jan this year, but again COVID prevented. As no available  space during year, cancelled but owner kept deposit stating rubbish. On phone/email turned from nice to nasty once he knew I wasn’t going. No breakfast provided due to COVID ? Not even continental in bag, but no reduction in price.

I booked a room for 3 people , which was a double bed with a sofa bed (as advertised ) and received confirmation stating exactly that . Our checking in time was 4;30 pm . The owners son arrived to check us in at 5:30 pm . He then proceeded to moan that he wasn’t aware of the sleeping arrangements and he’d only readied a room with a double bed , but he would quickly make up a room with 2 single beds ! When it was explained to him (with proof of what was booked ) he was less than accommodating, rudely suggesting if it wasn’t good enough , we find somewhere else to stay . 
By this time we’d been made to wait over an hour past our checking in time , met with rudeness , not getting what was booked & having found the place was grubby , run down and unwelcoming, I booked elsewhere .
There’s a reason this place is the cheapest on all the booking sites !!
