A very mixed experience. The pub is situated under 1 mile from Reeth, on a B-road junction Kirby Stephen to Richmond so there is some traffic noise but there was a totally unacceptable amount of bar noise on the Friday night. Although the pub website advises they close at 11pm, Our room 5 was above the bar and despite using earplugs we were kept awake until 2am with noise from the bar. The Saturday noise ceased at 12 though. The rooms are standard but clean and the bed comfortable. There is a good size car park and a decent choice of ales, wines and spirits and there is a good breakfast variety of cereals and fruit with yoghurt. Also tasty fried breakfast but the toast was too hard and burnt. A decent choice of food at dinner, however although the steak and ale pie tasted nice, there were a couple of stomach upsets amongst our party overnight.
My group enjoyed a good 3 mile circular walk which can be downloaded for free which routes along the river Swale, over a suspension bridge and into Reeth, where we stopped for refreshments, of which there are plenty in a variety of establishments. The pub is nicely situated for touring the Yorkshire Dales

A mixed experience

The landlord and I have not always seen eye to eye (faults on both sides, maybe...).  So, when I went to a friend's funeral, and in church it was announced there would be "refreshments" afterwards at this particular pub, I was initially unimpressed!  Of course, you don't go to a funeral for the funeral tea anyway.  But it deserves to be said, this proved to be the all-time Rolls-Royce of funeral teas.  Moreover, we were NOT treated as a nuisance or an inconvenience that the staff resented having to put up with, we were met with every courtesy and politeness.  And the eatables laid out for us were impressive to put it mildly: none of your predictable crummy frozen mini-sausage rolls and samosas, more like a gourmet buffet experience, really professionally prepared and superbly presented.  And of course the beer was excellent, but that won't be news to anyone who has ever sampled the beer here (which I undeniably have, in the past!).  If only the deceased could have been there to enjoy it for himself!

So yeah, there may be some unfavourable reviews on here, and maybe the landlord and I are not quite best of friends, but the truth must be told: when the Bridge at Grinton is at its best, it is really really really good.  And it sure as hell WAS at its brilliant best, on this occasion.  Superb food, superb beer, and proper friendly Dales hospitality.

At its best, it's a fine example of a decent village pub.  Same family ownership for many years now.  If the people who have left negative reviews on here happen to have come on a bad day, that's a pity.  To anyone visiting Swaledale, I would say: don't leave without at least giving it a try! 

Credit where it's due

I dined out on Thursday evening (3/11/2022) with 22 other people. 3 people on our table ordered the Rib Eye Steak cooked medium, whilst there was nothing wrong with the way it was cooked all 3 steaks were served cold. When the waiter came round to ask if everything was OK  I told him my steak was cold as did the other  2 diners with the same problem, one problem was that the meal was served on a piece wood rather than a hot plate which certainly would not have helped the situation. The totally inadequate response was that he was very sorry. No offer of replacement or attempt at reheating was offered and there was no offer of reduction in price. In my opinion the waiters response was totally unacceptable.

Cold Steaks !!!

Tables all need re varnishing carpet needed a good clean and smelt on entry passing toilets.
Food not served til 6pm no light snacks earlier and its the only pub in area so its a shame arent utilising to full potential.

Run down

We have just had a lovely evening in the bridge inn at Grinton
We called In around 5 ish for a drink and ended staying all evening for drinks and a Evening meal
The place was a lovely atmosphere pub, we had a window seat next to a open fire, the staff were pleasant and their where people playing cards and watching rugby on a iPad 
We asked could we book a table for our meal and he said the menus come out at 6, we ordered our food and it was just beautiful, all cooked fresh and nothing was to much trouble, the evening just went so fast, 
Would highly recommend

Weekend in the dales

Wow. What a rude land lord / bar person. In fact I am chuckling at how unnecessarily rude they were, to the point that others raised their eyebrows. They were perfectly happy to take my money though. 
Such a lovely town and area - this place should be ashamed for lowering the tone.
Food - i have eaten here before post lock down and found the food to be good. This time, however, it was as though I had lost my taste with covid. Over cooked fish, micro burger in a bun. Awful. Didn't get asked, once, if the food was OK, or if we were OK. Not that that would have mattered, but today our experience was sighfully poor, so this just adds to it.
We won't bother with this place again, and if this is now the norm, then I suggest you go and spend your £40 elsewhere.

Lots of other lovely places to spend your money.

My advice, go elsewhere.

We visited the restaurant last year and had a nice meal outside. We booked in again this summer, this time inside. Covid pandemic seems to have knocked this place hard. 

The inside was dim and their was little atmosphere. Our drinks order was taken quickly but the drinks took ages to arrive especially the second order. 

The starters were a mixed bag. The squid tender but the tomato soup was sharp and not nice. Main courses had elements that were good but other parts were cold and not as nice. Plates  were over filled with veg.

I know the pandemic has made staffing and consistently hard but more focus is required on service and food to make us want to return again.

Scruffy

Another great stay at the Bridge, well looked after with top quality food including the breakfast! Only stayed 2 nights, but it was nice to get back to Swaledale and chill out, between the walks!

2 of us visited today with our 3 dogs,I had vegetable moussaka and my husband had a burger,food was lovely with prompt friendly service,will definitely visit this beautiful pub again when in the area,highly recommend

Beautiful pub,lovely food and friendly staff

We had two dinners and a lunch here during our short four-day visit to the area, we enjoyed it so much.  The staff were all fabulous - Harry, Caterina and Freya were very attentive and friendly.  The food was good and we could sit in the bar area instead of the dining room.
