Overnight stay for Forest of Dean based event. Budget hotel well placed although room decor extremely tired. Very clean but bathroom definitely needs attention and a plug for the sink would have been a great addition. Evening meal extremely good and staff friendly although service slow. Probably because takeaway orders seem to get preference. No hotel information (apart from menu) in room. Reception advised that included breakfast was from 0730 however kitchen was not opened until nearly 8 which was too late for me, especially as they only do cooked rather than cereal etc. 
Overall, slightly disappointing stay but bed comfy and cost was fair - or would have been if breakfast had been on time. 

Could have been better

Good, tasty view and friendly staff. Enjoyed MOMO starter and Lamb Rani main. Bottle of Gurkha beer went down well too and we were well looked after by the staff who were very welcoming and accommodating. 

Tasty and friendly 

I stayed here recently with friends. We needed something local to lydney as we were attending an event at the local train station. It is no frills but very clean with very comfortable beds. It is run by a lovely family from Nepal . There is a Nepalese restaurant there which we didn’t try but the full English breakfast was great . I’d recommend it if you are after a reasonably priced place in the area. 

Clean and comfortable but no frills 

What a gem of a find. This hotel, whole the room decor was a bit " tired" was spotlessly clean and had a bath in the ensuite I could lie down in comfortably ( 6' 1" my height.)
Rooms are at the rear of the Inn so you are not disturbed by the A48 road.
Restaurant and bar are both excellent plenty of Gurkha memorabilia and portraits of Gurkha VC winners on the walls with descriptions of their acts of valour.
The food is second to none. We had Chicken Shashlik and Gurkha chicken curry. Both outstanding.
We intend to return and bring our lads along too ( this trip was oart of an anniversary tour)
The car park fence is engraved with the Gurkha regiment motto.
Breakfast was excellent you can pay to have more but I found the standard one bacon,sausage,egg,hash brown, mushrooms and beans to be quite enough......toast and strong filter coffee.
Fully reccomend this place to anyone. Family run, friendly people excellent value.

Woolaston Inn, Gurkha bar and restaurant 

Very disappointed with the whole stay. No staff manning the reception, then a Chinese lady in Pjarmas and eating from a bowl came and gave me the keys and breakfast slips, no information about the breakfast except the times it would be served between.The both rooms required maintenance, toilet didn’t flush properly in one room, toilet not attached to the floor in the other, plug didn’t fit in either of the rooms sinks so water didn’t stay in sink, window didn’t shut, curtains hanging from pole, bedding didn’t have protectors on. Yellow stains on pillows and mattresses. Looked like wee stains on mattress cover and mattress. DISGUSTING. I asked to have another room but told that they were fully booked. Manager wasn’t there, “may be later” but when I said we would be out all I got was “yes it’s a problem!” But then did nothing about it. There were no other guests that we saw.Seemed more like a home for multiple residence of the Chinese family running it. I think they had vacated the two rooms just so they could put us up as we saw family members going into the other rooms. Had to wait a long time at reception again following morning, completely ignored by staff too busy on their phones! Breakfast turned out to be 6 items only. The bacon was over cooked, sausage under cooked, poached eggs raw, beans cold and all swimming in fat. It was disgusting. No sign of any staff when we left either. I think the hotel inspector and health and hygiene inspector would have a field day!

NIGHTMARE

This is our go to single night stop over. They have space for two campervans in the carpark (which you need to book). Our favourite restaurant. Small garden beautifully kept, with picnic tables for your breaky, and this time views of a hunting bird of prey

Lovely as always

Stayed here for one night only.
A little surprised when arriving as more like a restaurant than an Inn. Staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. Food was stunning and excellently priced.
Room was dated but full of character.
Views across the fields were to die for.
Would I recommend.?   Hell yes.

A delight

Booked well in advance for a group of 14 but table only laid for 12.  Restaurant service was incredibly slow, we had to wait an hour from sitting down to being served and the food  was mediocre, nothing like as good as it used to be. Perhaps it's changed hands.

Disappointing restaurant

Just returned from a lovely week staying in the Netherend inn in Woolaston.  Great place  to stay, all mod cons  standard of accommodation is excellent.  Richard who owns the place and the pub which is a 2 minute walk away is so nice and very welcoming. We would definitely go back again.

Lovely stay at Netherend Inn

We stayed here for a couple of nights and it was the best choice. The room was lovely, very comfortable bed, clean bathroom, no fridge but didn't need one. Tea and coffee in room plus toiletries etc. The food was amazing, they can really cook, really wish they were local. Very helpful staff.
