My mother, brother and I stayed here in July 2017 and found it to be quite a good hotel. The staff were lovely and helpful - particularly Nikki in reception and Callum who fixed our "non-working" shower (turns out I had to pull the power cord >.<).

The room we stayed in was spacious and hosted a private courtyard with access to the car park. This was very advantageous and saved us lugging our suitcases long distances. 

Location-wise it was good too. Only a 30 minute walk from the main tourist area made it central enough to be convenient but not overcrowded.

Sad to hear that it has closed down

Not sure this review has value as the hotel closes at the end of October 2017. While my room was adequate, some light bulbs didn’t work, nor did some soap dispensers in the bathroom and the hot tap revolved as tou turned it on. The bed was hard. On the plus side, the room was spacious and warm. The bar and reception area were welcoming. I only had cereal, toast and coffee for breakfast which was adequate served in a dining room, more suited to a greenhouse. The hotel is in a middle class suburb but charged close to central Edinburgh prices. I’m sure you can easily find a better choice of hotel

Tired and closing down

Good rooms, clean, well maintained. Mattress ok. 
Baby cot was ready in the room by the time we checked in (extra charge for it when booked the room but no ectra charge was added to the bill).

Close to the centre

We had a beautiful room - probably the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Two huge bay windows, luxurious beds, TV and hairdryer all good. The bathroom also looked amazing. Cooked breakfast was also better than adequate. The reception staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. 

A few details brought the score down. There was no heating in the bathroom which might make it uncomfortable in the winter, especially as we had to run the hot tap for several minutes to get warm water through. The handle fell off the toilet flush. A smell hung around the entrance hall which was probably damp. In general, there was a bit of a tired feel to it. 

All that said, I was sad to see that the hotel would be closing down on 31st October. The building is stunning but must be extremely costly to maintain. Glad to have been a guest.

Good overall

Stayed here for a mid week night, arrived early as I'd been on a tour of Murrayfield (very close by, great location for rugby!). Found staff to be welcoming and friendly, asked just to leave the car but was told the room was ready early so I was able to check in fully.
Like most old buildings there were maybe some bits of tlc needed but nothing that caused me concern. Bar area looked quite pleasant.
Hotel was in a lovely, leafy area of Edinburgh, walked to the National Museum (about 45 mins) and it was a very nice walk indeed. Arrived back late but again, easy enough walk and very quiet as mostly residential.
Sleep was comfortable enough and on check out I again found the staff friendly. They had no concern with my leaving the car after check out to collect later.

Very sad to see they are closing, it's a great location and would have happily stayed again.
