Ate here 3/4 times while on holiday and staying 2 mins up the road.
Really good food and a varied menu. Staff really friendly, would recommend!
Our favourites were..
Katsu curry, cauliflower curry, chicken burger and Greek side salad. 
Deserts were fantastic too!

While on holiday

Went on spec on a quiet Thursday afternoon, as it’s been quite a while since I last visited I was pleasantly surprised by the changes, very nice .
The menu is excellent with loads of choice.
We went for grilled sea bass and chicken supreme, we were advised there would be a 20-25 min wait as they were cooked from fresh, we decided it might be worth the wait and it was.
Both were served with new potatoes and seasonal veg and both were superb, cooked to perfection, absolutely faultless. The quality of the food is as good as it gets , can’t recommend enough. Even better for the meals and two soft drinks the bill was £31 !!!
We will be back 👍

Fabulous food and great value !

My wife and I visited the Kings Head tonight and quite honestly had the worst meal. My wife ordered fish and chips and the chips were so black she had to send them back and were replaced with fries. I ordered fish pie which was tasteless and watery and the greens consisted of curly kale, leek and sugar snaps. the sugar snaps were ok but i have had better fish pies from Sainsburys.
The bottle of of wine was fine

Lived locally for many years but first time I’ve tried here. Came here with a few friends for a catch up over food. Looked online at the menu I advance and surprised by how pricey it seemed but thought I would until I was there to look into better. Ordered steak. A basic steak prices at £20 was ridiculous. Portion size was disappointing. Could have gone to Wetherspoons for better and cheaper. Desserts were priced at £6.
They were tasty but small again. Not a bad place in terms of decor but Jesus the prices are ridiculous. Sorry folks. Won’t be back.

Pricey

Booked for evening meal for 2.
Ordered the fish n chips and chilli salmon and noodles.It stated thrice cooked chips.My chips were barely cooked and soggy..The fish was nice but very small for £12..
Chef needs to learn how to cook chips?especially thrice..also if you get fish n chips elsewhere you get a full double tailer fillet..
May return but not in a hurry..

Booked for evening meal

Despite being issued with a key, the door to the hotel entrance would not open after it was locked after 11pm. Consequently, when I returned to the hotel at 01:30 after visiting relatives in the village, I could not gain entry. I was very fortunate that my relatives could accommodate me on their floor that night (ironically, the main reason for choosing this hotel was to visit relatives living in Lanchester but who didn’t have a spare room to accommodate me). I hate to think what I (or anyone else put in this situation) would or could have done had I not had relatives close by to fall back on. When I returned to the hotel the following morning at 7:30, I could still not gain entry until the landlord arrived 20 minutes later and had to force the door open. Despite humble apologies from the landlord and a promise to refund my stay for that night, three weeks on from this traumatic incident I have not been compensated, as the landlord was not present on the morning of my departure and has not responded to a written message with my contact details handed to a member of his staff and two phone calls to the property answered by his staff. Either 3 different members of staff are not passing on my details or the landlord is ducking the issue.This is a real pity as the hotel itself was okay, but this incident, coupled with the lack of follow up to promised compensation has severely tarnished my opinion and review of this hotel. Whether I’m compensated or not, future customers please beware of the locked door. If you find yourself ‘locked out’, you will need to apply brute force to avoid a night on the streets…..

My wife and I called in today and had a light lunch.
Service was good but not speedy.

Lunchtime snack

Doug, Jamie and team made us feel at home. Food was superb. Finding the hotel due to work we decided to go up as a couple from Hampshire. Great views around the area. Great little surprise. So glad we chose local and not chain hotel. If we are back this way we will stay again.

After living in Lanchester for over 24 years and being a regular customer of The King's, I have to say I have never experienced such shoddy service as I did today. I am very aware of current restrictions due to covid but this was purely lack of any service nothing else. After arriving for a drink with my partner we were told to take a seat and someone would be over to take our order. After some time nobody came over to us but managed to take an order from the next table who arrived some time after us. I caught the waitress eye and told her we had still not been served to which she apologised. After further 15 minutes and yet another group of people being seated and their order being taken we eventually decided enough was enough and left after waiting total half hour. The guests around us were horrified at the lack of service we had received. As we left the building I spoke to the 4 staff members around the bar to express my disappointment at the total lack of service provided by them. Just one if them said sorry. Nothing else. Just to add hand sanitiser empty on arrival. HOW NOT TO RUN A PUB

poor poor service

Called in tonight, 2nd day of opening. Wow food was absolutely awesome. I had pork lion with cider gravy, highly recommended. Husband had steak cooked to perfection. Server's where lovely and friendly. Strongly recommended for decent home cooked food at brilliant prices. Can't wait to come back again.
