Lovely stay. Room lovely and warm, comfortable bed, clean bathroom and bedroom. Great English breakfast served in dining room, evening meal served in bar/restaurant with a roaring great fire. Staff very friendly, efficient, welcoming and always ready for a chat. Highly recommend

Well run place. Good food, good staff and manager, good rooms. We statyed there on Fridat evening. Ate an excellent pie with a lovely crusty bottom. Manager was very accommodating and helpful. Very happy to return there. A very good country pub.

Went for a meal here with family, we had always heard good things about the food so thought we would try it and wish we had never bothered. The roast beef was that raw it was practically still moo-ing!! The worst we have ever had. Very small amount of mashed potato on the plate under the beef which was that stringy you could hardly cut through it and all the blood from the raw beef had run into the mashed potato. Also a very small amount of veg for 4 people and at £20 each was an absolute rip off (it said £15 on the website!) I did e mail twice to let them know how bad it was as I didn’t want to cause a scene in the pub when there was other people in there but they didn’t even bother to reply.

Don’t waste your money!

Food was good but the service was lacking. No drinks menu until we asked, no second drink offer, low attention and poor eye contact making this difficult. No dessert menu or bill despite asking. Locals received an entirely different level of service and welcome.  We are struggling to understand the rave reviews we read before booking. Avoid.

Avoid

We are new to the area and visited the Fauconburg looking for a pub that could be our local.
GOOD THINGS :The beer, atmosphere, most customers and friendly staff.

BAD THINGS: the foul language coming from one individual which wasn't checked.
We do spend a lot of time in pubs and accept the odd occasion of bad language .
There was a young juvenile having a meal and this type of language is unacceptable.
We told one of the staff why we were leaving but obviously not the owner or landlord.

WHAT A SHAME!

What a  shambles and let down

A quaint and cozy hotel about a 30 minute drive from York. The staff are very warm and friendly and the included full English breaksfast is a treat not to be missed! Rooms are adequate in size. Note that the website contains information and photos of each room for you to select. The hotel also includes a traditional pub. We dound the Fauconberg to be a good base for exploring North Yorkshire.

A local gem not far from York

The reviews of this property were good, so we booked it for my wife, granddaughter and me.

We were in a standard double room with a camp bed, to accommodate all three of us. The room was far too small for this and made getting around very difficult.

The shower room/ cupboard was very small with a shower cubicle non of us would use, as we didn’t like the look of it and a toilet with a damaged seat.
The sink was in the bedroom.
There were cobwebs in the room and pet hairs on the carpet.

The restaurant didn’t have a children’s menu, just smaller portions of the adult one, non of which our granddaughter really wanted.
Family friendly……………not!

We enjoyed the breakfast and then checked out, without staying for the second night we booked.

When we were asked why we were checking out early, all our reasons were met with replies that didn’t acknowledge our concerns, apart from the fact that our shower room/cupboard was in need of refurbishment.
Surely this should have been flagged up before booking and offering us a discount on the room rate?

We paid for the second night in full, to avoid a scene at reception, without being offered any recompense.

It was certainly not for us.


Very disappointed!

Had a wonderful stay at this historic inn. It’s located in a tiny hamlet in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The rooms above the pub for us and my in laws were beautiful, clean and meticulously decorated to match the 17th century, but with a modern bathrooms. 
The restaurant and pub were wonderful. There is an outside patio in both the front and back to relax with food and drinks. The food was delicious. Staff were very friendly. We had great service. This was a serendipitous find that I  booked online and was not disappointed. Highly recommend this Inn and it’s pub and restaurant.

The lack of atmosphere in the restaurant was unfortunately off putting, there wasn’t any music and the room was rather cold making it uncomfortable. 
Cannot fault the staff but didn’t want to stay very long.

My wife and I had lunch here on our 50th Wedding Anniversary.  It was over 27 years since our last visit.  The service, friendliness and food were all superb and the meal was excellent value.  The presentation of both the slow-roasted belly of pork and the flat iron steak was exemplary.  We thoroughly recommend this fine old inn.
