Lovely stay at this guest house near Coalville really nice area and very friendly hosts dog friendly and very welcoming.If your traveling with dogs the area has some pleasant walks and the guest house has a safe area to let the dogs run.

Ravenstone guest house.

It was dark when we arrived. However we received a delightful welcome from Ann who showed us up to our room. We were in the Brass Bed bedroom. I thought it was quintessentially English. There was a lovely TV, WiFi, heating, fan if it was too hot, fridge, tea/coffee facilities, BATHTUB ( I hate showers!) as well as a shower, great lighting, lovely pictures on the wall & delightful ornaments decorating the room. Although what some people may term old-fashioned I thought it was just great and it totally fitted the character of the place. 
Ann was a delightful host. We had what was probably the best breakfast we had ever had. I just wish I was able to spend another night there. 
If you like reading books and walking the dog you will love it.

Quirky but delightful

First things first - there is a dog. It lives there with the owners of the guest house. The place has dog hair all over. It has that slight smell of musky dog, which most dog owners can't smell; but it's there.

I'm allergic to dogs. I booked through Expedia and nowhere did it say there was a dog. I double checked. Not on Expedia, the official website or any reviews on Expedia either - so I'm making a point of saying ... There is a dog here. A barky, smelly, hairy dog. 

Besides the obvious... This is my opinion.  

Pros: 
- Owners are friendly.
- Quiet room.
- Quirky, original vintage detail.
- Off street parking. 
- Free Wi-Fi.
- Free breakfast.
- Dog friendly, obviously.
- Cheap (£45pn).
- Comfortable bed.
- Newly fitted bathroom, en-suite. 

Cons: 
- Dog.
- Nothing around; no restaurants, pubs or supermarkets within walking distance; driving everywhere is a must, which means no drinking.
- Breakfast must be chosen the day before hand. An odd tick-box piece of paper with selections on must be completed. Not sure what happens if you wake up in the morning and fancy something else? Weird.

Overall the place was nice and the owners were nice enough, although they're probably in their 80's so don't realise how they could improve and update the place. 

The dog fur was too much for me though. I was shocked because it was never stated anywhere, which I thought was very unprofessional. Then I realised there was nothing around either. 

Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm just too London for that place. I was working away from home and when I do that, I need social - not antisocial.

Quirky, comfortable but dated. For dog lovers.

Fantastic place, a really warm welcome and a delightful room. It was quiet, peaceful and clean. Makes a really pleasant change from the hotel chains and I shall definitely be staying again. Easy to find, short and pleasant  20 min walk into Coalville where there are ample restaurants. Delicious breakfast.


Excellent

I travel a lot for business and pleasure and I have never had an experience like the one I had at Ravenstone Guest House.

I arrived at 4:30pm on the day of check-in after my administration staff informing them that I would be arriving at this time through booking on Hotels.com. 

Upon arrival I noticed that the car park was quite full but still managed to park up. I went to the reception door and rung the bell to call for check-in assistance; however, there was no answer at the door. There were a number of door bells to press and door knockers to knock so I tried them all after 5 minutes of waiting. 

After 10 minutes I heard snoring coming from one of the upstairs open windows - the person then woke up to my knocking and came down to see me but it turned out that they were, what seemed, a long term guest. The gentleman gave me a mobile telephone number to ring as the owner was away and somebody else was looking after the Guest House. I called the number and got no answer. At this point I decided to find a restaurant for dinner to decide what I can do next.

To be fair, after 10 - 20 mins of calling the number I was given, the lady rang me back only to inform me that they were full and the only room they had was a single, very small box room with no shower. I was also told that the lady wasn't aware of the booking from Hotels.com. I then said that I would try to sort somewhere else.

I managed to book into the Best Western nearby and whilst I was checking in there the lady from the Guest House rand me again to apologize and to say that she thought that one of the guests was supposed to check-out the day I was arriving but this hadn't happened. The lady also said that she had found the booking and a full-refund would be issued.

I have business coming up in the local area quite frequently over the next year and I'm afraid that, after my experience, I or my colleagues will not be booking the Ravenstone Guest House again.

As I didn't even manage to make it inside, I cannot comment on the rooms, in-stay service or food.
