Got off to a very good start with a very reasonably priced glass of very cold champagne.  Lovely starter of scallops followed by delicious lemon sole,with a very unusual salad of new potatoes, courgette and radishes.  Dessert was an excellent strawberry semi Freddo.  Love The George, great venue and friendly efficient staff.  The menu on this visit was hugely improved from the last visit,can’t wait to go back.

Very good Sunday lunch

We live locally and eat regularly at The George. My wife and I ate there again today and had the same issue as have experienced before. We booked Sunday lunch for the two of us  for 2pm and though the service is great, the beef excellent the rest of the food is very disappointing as it is over cooked and unacceptable. Denise sent her Yorkshire pudding back as she did last time as it was like a burnt cricket ball. The cauliflower cheese was exceptionally over cooked, the roast potatoes a mixture of tough, over cooked and burnt ones and overall the meal was very disappointing.
In fairness when we book for an earlier time everything is freshly cooked and a great meal.  The George is a lovely old English pub with superb staff and it is just a shame that the food let's it down if you book a late Sunday sitting. Not sure if it is cooked fresh to order as it would seem to be all cooked in one go so if you get there early all is fine, but if you eat later on a Sunday it just isn't good enough for £17.50 a head.
No problem going back as we have had many a good meal there, but we will book a much earlier time slot from now on for Sunday lunch.

A late Sunday lunch time booking means very disappointing, over cooked food

We visited The George for a family get together and what a delight !
The setting overlooking the village green is beautiful. 
The food choices were all great , the presentation very stylish and the service was excellent. 
We have been there many times and have never been disappointed. 
Well done to all at The George.

The George

We stayed for two nights.  Room great.  Food fabulous and staff all very nice.  Would reccomend for room location food and staff.  The hake dish I had was excellent.  Very nice view of the green in room two. 

Lovely break

We stayed two nights in Feb and it’s lovely. The food is fantastic and the service is first class  
The room was lovely spotless and dog friendly. The staff worked hard at making our stay as pleasant as possible. There is a large green next door for dog walking and another pub for drink if wanted. It was busy as well in the evenings, which is a good sing. Highly recommended

Excellent

We stopped by on a rainy Wednesday for lunch. The set menu was excellent value and absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend for quality food and the Sunday roast is also fantastic.
Best food in the area. 


Delicious food 

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at The George and thoroughly enjoyed the scrumptious fayre on offer. We both had an excellent steak and fine desserts, though the seafood platter starter was a tad disappointing as the shrimps were below par.
Service was good with two upbeat, jolly waitresses but we had to move tables as the one directly next to the bar area is noisy.
Great surroundings and a traditional English coaching inn feel to the place. It was good to spend time together having had a busy couple of days with the boisterous kids (The Carer and Harper’s Bizarre) and with a very pleasant bottle of Fault Line Sauvignon Blanc it was good to get away from their endless chattering.....
Prices are steep but saying that we both had first class steaks, so overall a pretty tip top place, but pricing would mean not a regular haunt with so many other local hostelries on offer all competing in the same sector at more realistic prices.


Very good, though somewhat pricey

If you enjoy beautiful food, friendly professional staff, an interesting menu, fabulous wine in a relaxed setting, in a pretty village WITH b and b Then this is the place for you!! Tiger prawns, seabream all perfect! Feels like I'm in the south of France keep doing what your doing, thankyou! Xx

Amazing!!!!

Just had Sunday lunch at The George, I had the lamb and my partner had the pork. Everything was cooked to perfection and there was so much flavour in everything on the plate it was the stand out meal of the trip! Wish I had room for dessert, perhaps another time.


Exceeded expectations 

I couldn’t be happier with this little pub! The service was warm and friendly, constant smiles. The food was amazing! The room was clean, cosy and comfortable.
Overall I’m very impressed and cannot wait to visit again!
