I spent a week here at the end of October and I had a great time. The highlights for me are 1) It's a great location. Literally two minutes from the beach and very close to several bars, restaurants and nightclubs. 2) The sleeping pods which afford you a level of privacy you wouldn't normally get at a hostel. Feels like a tiny little room of your own. 3) The hosts. There's people who work here and also love here so you'll always get assistance. Alex and his team are very responsive as well. 

Great location and amazing people

Awesome place in the centre of town. Very reasonably priced. We went for a weekend and booked multiple rooms. Bathroom was also nice and clean. The staff were really helpful and would do anything to ensure we had a good stay. Thank you to the team who made our stay brilliant!

Amazing place to stay with friends!

We had a great time at Happy. It’s the perfect location with a fun, welcoming, atmosphere. 

A real highlight was the outstanding customer service. Hannah, in particular, was excellent, really going above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. 

10/10 would come again.

Best Brighton Pride Stay

For the price I should have lowered my expectations, but all the same we weren't that impressed. The bathroom was the main issue - the toilet and sink seemed clean enough, but the shower had mould all over the bottom of it and black mould all up the walls (see photos). We were unable to open the window, which was probably why so much mould had accumulated there. There were hairs on the sheets and pillows, which made us think they hadn't been cleaned. We emailed to ask if we could leave our bags in the room and keep the key until the afternoon on the day we were checking out, and they kindly said yes however the cleaners would need to come in to clean, but then when we came back, we found our door open, which made us concerned as to the safety of our belongings. There were no staff there it seemed, we only had email contact with them. Overall, the price is great, but don't expect much more.

You get what you pay for..

This is a very late review as I stayed there for two nights in February 2022.

It may be a case of “you get what you pay for” as I chose the cheapest option due to my budget at the time and have no idea what their other room options are like?!.
I booked and slept in a pod, which I was initially really looking forward to.
Whilst the pods look good my two nights sleep in one made me think “this is where backpackers go to die!”.

The pods are all interconnected and you can intimately “feel” your neighbouring pod guests.

One girl, four pods across woke me up on both nights due to her limbs forcefully connecting with her pod walls.
The pods are smaller than a single bed so if you’re used to a larger sleeping space this option may not suit you at all.

I also thought the decor in the main communal area felt “half done” and very basic.

The kitchen utilities are more than fit for purpose but also could do with being upgraded in my opinion.

If I hadn’t had a much better experience at another local hostel in the same price bracket I would possibly have been happier about my experience there.

That all said, it’s affordable on a budget, very well positioned in Kemptown; not far from the beach, seafront facilities and the liveliness of Brighton’s Lanes.

Happy hostel is a lovely building and with some more money invested into the fixtures and fittings I believe it could indeed reflect the happy vibe its name proclaims.

Not so Happy @ Happy hostel

I had a fantastic experience staying here for a couple of nights. For the money, it is incredible value as you are right near the sea front! Everyone was so welcoming and the sleeping pods were comfortable and private. The whole experience went very smoothly and I would definitely return

Best place to stay in Brighton!

I will never get over how amazing this hostel is for the affordable price. I quite literally have nothing bad to say. Even before arriving you feel a sense of helpfulness and fun when communicating with the hostel managers. And upon arrival, you are greeted with a warm welcome and a bright, inviting place. Even for a group of six girls like us, the bunk room was more than spacious and comfortable. The hostel is located right on the seafront which makes the pier and city centre easily accessible, it really is the perfect spot! We spent a week in Brighton (which is now my favourite place on earth by the way) and still some of our favourite moments were spent in the communal areas of the hostel which were full of likeminded, fun-loving and friendly individuals. I hope to return to HAPPY next year. I truly cannot express how great this place is.

The best accommodation in Brighton!

5 mates and I had a phenomenal week here! You definitely get what you pay for with this accommodation but the staff was excellent and everyone was v nice! Ideal for a group of friends wanting a getaway (the location is ideal, we were so shocked about how good it was!) or a base for a stag/hens due. Very few places accept a group of 6 teenage guys but the accommodation were so welcoming and the communal areas were so enjoyable(especially for a social group like ours). The pod beds were so fun and quirky, as well as being convenient for us. It was the most normal we had all felt since the pandemic and I can’t thank everyone enough. Thanks for the brilliant experience and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a economically friendly and enjoyable experience!

I visit Brighton regularly and I’ve finally found my home away from home, I couldn’t have felt more welcome at HAPPY. Alex and team are awesome, hands down. I had a great sleep after visiting a few of the recommended local spots for food & drink - trust their opinion, I still dream about the burger I had. See you guys in July!

I’ve found my place!

Stayed for 2 nights with friends, found the location to be amazing as it was very central and within walking distance of all attractions, especially the pier and beach. Communal area was very comfortable and had all the facilities needed. Staff were lovely and super helpful, would definitely stay again when in Brighton!
