Have just returned from a two night Travelzoo deal at the Cartwright. Reading the previous reviews we arrived with trepidation. However, we had a great stay. Room, in the courtyard, was welcoming, comfortable, and, above all, clean.  Large  bed (plus a single), sofa, flat screen tv. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meals, and breakfast was very well presented. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. Visit the interior design mansion just across the road for an experience! 

A pre-Christmas break 

We were slightly apprehensive having read the previous review. Our experience was 
completely different. Room spacious, warm and clean. Plenty of hot water. Dined twice and enjoyed both meals. Food served in good time and staff chatty and charming. Breakfast was good too. Fresh fruit, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries with yoghurt and muesli as well as a varied selection of cooked breakfasts. Very helpful staff. 
Our package included Bletchley Park tickets. A humbling but informative place. 
We also visited RH England which is just a short walk from the hotel. Surreal. Have a look around but return to The Cartwright for dinner!
All in all more than pleased with our stay so TQ to the Cartwright team.

A pre Christmas short break

21 fully refurbished rooms…. Room 19 must have been overlooked or refurbished years ago . Peeling paintwork, grubby walls, very tired room.
 Cleanliness: thick dust along edge of skirtings, but on the whole bedding and bath etc all clean. 
Food: poor. Salmon overcooked and dry.
Breakfast: uggghhh … scrambled eggs like something scraped off the floor or stuck to the bottom of the pan. Looked so horrible I couldn’t touch it. Streaky bacon hardly cooked.
Reception:- buckets galore catching drips from roof.
NO HOT WATER in room. Cold shower. Unable to wash hair. Response from staff or chap on reception when checking out… we’ll notify housekeeping to have a look at it. No apology. 
All in all so many hotels, pubs, restaurants, accommodation in the surrounding area, The Cartwright requires much work to bring it up to scratch. 



Sad, tired room. No hot water and poor food.

The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent, obviously good quality products and big portions. The Liverpudlian gentleman - sorry I didn’t get your name- was brilliant. Friendly, efficient - nothing was too much trouble for him. The dining room on the evening we arrived was quite chilly, that was at 6.30 pm so a bit early maybe. The room was warm and spacious, the bathroom was a bit tired although loads of hot water and great towels. Thank you

Central, comfortable with great food.

The hotel room was nice, clean and very spacious. It however was a little tired and could do with a pick me up. Also, be careful when drinking in the pub and charging drinks to the room. £8.70 for a pint of lager and nearly £5 for half a cider seems extremely excessive to me and I certainly would not have kept drinking it if I would have known the price. 

Nice, clean but a little tired

This is an excellent hotel that is well run with energetic and competent staff. Parking is no problem, breakfast was excellent. We were first given room 16 which is tiny, and if we had stayed there I would not consider it value for money. However before we unpacked, someone arrived and offered us a better room, no 14. We had been told that the hotel was full, so we don't know how the shift was possible. The outcome was entirely satisfactory, but heck, that was a close run thing. I don't know what was behind all this. NB this is not "just a countryvillage pub"; it's a proper hotel.

Well run hotel

5 of us spent 2 nights at the hotel, we had rooms in the main building.
The rooms in places are a little "tired" however that did not impact the stay at all.
The staff were all friendly and helpful, the food - both dinner and breakfast- were great and parking was easy.
We changed our room bookings when we arrived and the evening meal numbers/times multiple times but this was nor a problem for the staff and they looked after us well.
I would happily return if in the area.

Great stay

Mixed feelings about our recent stay at the Cartwright Hotel.  On a positive note the staff were brilliant, efficient and friendly.  Caroline was amazing, her personality is outstanding and she really makes this place.
Breakfast was perfect with a great selection and generous portions.  Evening meal was very reasonably priced but only average in choice and taste.
On a less positive note, I feel our room let this place down. The standard double room in the courtyard was basic and had more of a motel rather than hotel feel to it. The bathroom was tired and in need of attention.  The black electrician's tape on the power supply to the towel rail was, in my opinion, a safety issue


The Good And The Not So Good

We had a fantastic family lunch in the bar yesterday. Ten of us were all served with our food within minutes of each other, it was delicious,  hot and tasty. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves 

Our overnight stay was great with dinner, again in the bar as we had our two dogs with us.  They couldn't have been more welcomed with treats and strokes. 

The room had a very comfortable bed and the linen was very high quality. The bathroom was a little tired and I understand the previous review comments about the towel rail and the 'motel' feel in these rooms. 
The shower was excellent however the hot water did take a very long time to come through.

Breakfast was excellent and the choice was huge, freshly cooked and very tasty. The service was relaxed, efficient and perfect in every way, we couldn't have asked for more.

Caroline and her staff are so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them.

Family lunch and overnight stay

Good comfortable hotel and very clean. Stayed for one night after attending a wedding.
Room was very clean and a good variety of food for breakfast. Breakfast was well prepared and good value.with plenty of options.
