Overcharged for drinks on 21st july so queried it and although staff found my transaction and admitted i was and asking for my bank details they have not been forthcoming with my refund …ive contacted a few times and just given numerous excuses as to why its not been done and now they have stopped communicating with me ….so be sure to check your change!!

Enjoyed our fish and chips which were served pleasantly and in a reasonable time.
The Inn was busy with locals and walkers and maybe some of the clientele slightly rough but it is an inn not a fancy restaurant.

We had lunch here and it was Lovely! Great friendly service and the food was spot on. We had the fish finger bap- home battered fish and home made tartare sauce. Would definitely recommend this place.

Lovely food!

Went for a meal on 27 /5/21. Brilliant host very welcoming. Good beer and the meal was delicious.  Could not do enough to make us welcome. I would certainly recommend this place for a meal but book if you can because it gets busy. If in Alston, it is well worth a visit.

The pub downstairs is a traditional place, serving good pub food. 
The rooms upstairs I would not recommend. The walls are thin, carpets and bathrooms worn out and overall dirty - not good in the year of Covid-19. 
The current landlord is a nice, friendly man who I understand is leaving in the next couple of months. I hope whoever takes it on is able to do essential work on the rooms. Until then, don't stay here

Pub good, accommodation is not

Stopped off here while staying in Alston for a few nights, for some lunch and a few drinks. We were served my a lady who never smiled or exchange any form of welcome only a yes, made to feel very un welcome as we were a inconvenience to her. We didn't order lunch just had our drinks and left. The place needs a good clean. Toilets awful !!

3 stars but only for the lovely Guinness 

I’m currently walking the Pennine Way and stayed at this pub for a night en route. Everyone was extremely friendly. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Food excellent. A really enjoyable stop off and would definitely stay here again if visiting the area. Thank you.

Friendliest pub I’ve visited

The accommodation is basic/dated but Ken is a lovely, warm host who made sure the needs of my family were met. 

Clean bedding, hot shower and a good breakfast at a reasonable price. 

It's a little noisy at kicking out time (it above a popular pub (that serves reasonably priced but tasty, simple food)) but prepare yourselves for that and you'll have an enjoyable stay.

Ken is a lovely host

I booked 2 nights in December 2018 for July 2019 and got confirmation, only to get a call ‘out of the blue’ in mid January to say the 2 night was now double booked. I was given assurances that the Angel would take care of the error and arrange alternative accommodation. This did not happen. Communication was atrocious which left me ‘high and dry’. Everywhere else was fully booked which meant my plans were wrecked. I eventually found accommodation 40 miles away.
I can’t offer any review of accommodation, only the Shocking service.

Double booked

Called here in the early afternoon on our way to Hexham races.Pub was busy but we we
served with in 25 minutes.Food was good,reasonably priced at an average of £9.50/head
( gammon,pineapple,chips,cabbage and carrots).The chap behind the bar was very helpful even giving us all a tip for the last race of the day! The pub itself was originally constructed in 1611 and retains many of it's original features.
