We (my girlfriend and me) stayed in Pakarang Villa for two weeks. 
As mentioned above, the facilities are not very fancy, but they are more than sufficient. 
The rooms are nice and provided everything we need (Air condition, TV with English and German channels,..) If you want to stay there, I recommend at least a bicycle, a motorbike or even a car, because the place is a bit isolated. You can rent there a motorbike for 200 thb.
The best thing for us was the service from the owner´s family. 
They were very helpful and thoughtful to make this stay wonderful for us. 
One day we had a flat tire and they manage to fix it within 45 minutes for just 160 thb. 

We just can recommend this place, since it is very cheap. 
But it is even cheaper, when you book it directly at the Pakarang Villa and not via Agoda or so. 
There is even a swimming pool, which we didn´t use, since Coconut beach and White sand beach is quite close.

Great rooms, clean. Beautiful scenery. Nice pool (but who uses a pool when you have the ocean 5 minutes drive from the hotel?). Close to restaurants and beaches, 7/11 about  3 minutes with a bike.
Staff is great the owner is very helpful and always smiling. We had a BBQ on 2nd of January which was awesome.
Full access to the kitchen and the staff can make you breakfast if you ask for it, she made me a great vegetable shake, and I bought the vegetables myself. Would recommend it for anyone, couples, families and singles!

I recently stayed at Pakarang Villa with my partner, having booked it through a friend who lives in the area.  Although it is not located right on the beach, it is only a few minutes by car or bike and about 10-5 minutes drive approx from Khao Lak town.  The bungalow's are basic, pleasant and clean.  Some have air con, some have fans.  Pakarang Villa also has satellite facilities although this was not available at the time we stayed.  We did have a television but after watching half an hour's worth of just Thai speaking programes, we gave up on that one!  We also had a fridge which was very useful.  I also think they have wi fi but we did not use that.  The grounds are also pleasant with the main feature of a pool, clean and well maintained with a jacuzzi.  Sun beds with shady trees and a bar area.  Clean towels every day.   Although we did not request breakfast, if you ask, they will cater for that.  This is a place which has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with helpful staff.  If you wish to hire a bike just ask Tang - we hired one for 3 days.  There is a 7-11 a few minutes drive away where you can purchase bread, milk etc.  While we stayed there we went to some good restaurants in Khao Lak town, Sunshine is run by a Dutch gentleman and I recommend the roast pork and potatoes - good food and good price.  We also went to Jo's Steakhouse which was again, excellent steak and relaxed atmosphere - also they do a great house white.  Along the main drag is Moo Moo's - who do a cabaret with a difference, it was a fun experience and not at all sleazy.  I recommend driving to Rainbow waterfall, it is lovely, cool and peaceful and best enjoyed sitting admiring the beauty with a drink.  White Sands, nearby beach, has the whitest, softest sand you could wish for which stretch out for miles and you can catch beautiful sunset's.

Simple facilities, but great service!

Pakarang Villa, Khao Lak

BEAUTIFUL POOL & RELAXED ATMOSPHERE

We booked this hotel as just a place for leaving our luggage and other stuff while we were scuba diving on a live aboard cruise for 3 days. So we chose something with the lowest of budgets, as such, we were prepared and conscious this wouldn't be anything special, but even so, somethings we had to endure were quite unacceptable for any hotel, regardless of their star rating or prices..

For starters, we got to the hotel at around 1am, pretty exhausted from the 4 hour plane trip plus 2 hour drive from Phuket to Khaolak and for our surprise there was no available staff anywhere to be seen. After 5 minutes looking for someone we found a guy sleeping on one corner of the lobby area. He didn't speak one single English word and didn't understand anything of what we were saying. It took us a good 30 minutes for him to finally show us to a room, not without first entering uninvited with his cigarette burning!!! so, there we were, almost 2am, trying to sleep with a room stinking of cigarettes.

Second, one day, after getting back to the hotel from the beach, we found out our room hadn't been cleaned (no clean towels, no clean sheets, no nothing) so we went to the reception to ask for the room to be properly prepared for us. well, since there was no available staff, we were refused such "privilege" and even had to use the dirty towels we had used on the beach.

This towel situation happened twice.

So, in conclusion, while the space itself is what you would expect for the price you pay, the service is well below par. I will give some credit to the hotel manager who made somewhat of an effort, but that's it. I would maybe skip this hotel and invest a couple of bucks more in some place where you don't have to run around to get the basic services an hotel should be required to provide in the first place.
