Talalla Bay Beach House

Talalla Bay Beach B. & B. is very hard to beat. It occupies the most superb position right on the beautiful Talalla beach, which is one of the safest in Sri Lanka. The whole show is first class. It is my perfect retreat. The property also has a pool for the lovely dip when in need. Mr. Thomas, who runs the property, obviously knows what guests want and everything is catered for. The rooms are lovely with the front seaside rooms having the most amazing sea views. The Landside rooms are also very nice and my preference as they are only for sleeping and relaxing in and seem to be a bit cooler, so much so, that Air Con was not required. A nice breeze comes in and personally, I love them as a great place to stay and of course at a cheaper price, not having the sea view. This property is just perfect for a holiday – easy and very cheap to get to by train (Colombo to Kakanadura via Galle and a 10-minute Tuk-Tuk ride or an Express Bus, Colombo to Matara and then a 30-minute Tuk-Tuk ride to Talalla. Both journeys are good and I prefer the journey by Train for its scenic route, although it is longer in time (Check for an Express train from Colombo! The train is a great scenic experience, but bring plenty of drinking water before you start your journey. Mr. Thomas's breakfasts are the very best – I am not sure how he makes his omelet but they are truly divine and very moreish. The juice and fruit are so fresh and the bread made by the local baker in a wood-fired oven is simply out of this world! The accommodation is just what you need for a beach holiday. Simple and very elegant with divine “4 posters” traditional beds, room safes, and a good shower in the bathroom. Really I cannot think what more you would want. There is a restaurant next door serving very nice meals during the day and dinner at night and everything is catered for. There is also a good hotel up the road making the best Cocktails for those in need. If you need some retail therapy, Martara and Dikwella are a short distance away and if you wish to join the crowd, then take the express train to Galle for a great day out to see the most amazing "Heritage Listed" old Dutch Fort. This place is perfect in every way. Surfing required, then join the fun young crowd at Horseshoe Bay close (Hiriketiya Beach) close buy. There is a great atmosphere here to with some very nice places for food and drink. Visiting Sri Lanka – you do need to check this place out! Definately
