We stayed one night at jacks place and we were glad to have found this budget hostel. The family room was small but clean and even the street is so close we slept well. Udaya is a nice and friendly host so you can have a relaxed stay there. The only negative point we had is that the prize for breakfast was very high (about 600-700 rupies). That made the stay not so cheap as it seemed at first.

Good and friendly host

We had 3 nights here recently. It was very quiet since it was the end of season.Our host was very friendly and took us for a fabulous ride around the temples in the local villages. This is absolute GEM, Found this by change, and formed a friendship with the owner and the place that will continue in to the future.  Owner is A+ host,  loved the food and  service, placed has plenty of natural charisma, rooms are clean has AC and fans, with premium rooms with bar fridge and TV.  Beds are very comfortable with mosquito nets but had no misquotes at all outside the hotel or in the rooms. Budget and Premium rooms both got fans and mosquito nets. We booked two rooms, one budget and one premium room, we had 6 members  of our family staying here.
Very clean place, with lovely fragrance smell in rooms and also through out the hotel, we have been to kataragama 8 times since 1998 and we plan to stay here all our future visits. According Mr De Silva the owner, place is ear mark for massive renovation, this to start very soon, 20 odd new rooms to be built with a swimming pool and with a new restaurant, property is located in 2 acre block about 7 KM from heart of Kataragama , so watch this space, this is very good value for money as it is now and also in the future. This is absolute GEM

We stayed here two nights and loved every minute of Jacks Place. Udaya De Silva is the owner and he is one of the sweetest men that I have ever met! Oh yeah, not to mention, one hell of a cook too! He booked an amazing safari for us, offered to wash our clothing and cooked us really really good food (deviled chicken with fried rice is to die for, the vegetable soup was the best I have ever had, the curry lunch was huge and very memorable. 

Jacks Place has very comfortable beds, smaller sized rooms. They have wild monkeys that roam around in the backyard, very fun to watch. I would highly recommend staying at Jacks Place for your stay in Katagarama.

Great place, lovely host

the staff here cannot be beat. we spent 2 nights and had the most incredible service. it was a joy to hang around the common area and laze over breakfast, lunch, dinner and a book or two. food is delicious and we could enjoy a cold beer at the end of the day which is illegal in town. the owner organized a safari to yala for us. we also walked into town (roughly 4 km, about 45 min-1 hour) and took a tuk tuk back after the evening puja. 

the room is budget, but clean and comfortable. we had ac in our room and cold shower. 

the entrance gate is inscribed with "peace is possible" and i truly felt this is a really special place with good vibes all around. i was so touched by the service (and their little stray puppy), i cried when we left!
