The homestay is awesome! Sudha and her family made us feel like we were part of their family, our kids all played together, it was fantastic. It was my mom's birthday when we arrived and Sudha cooked us a special meal just for it. The view from the veranda is amazing, and it's really well located for the train station and a 5 min walk into town. The cooking class was great and really authentic. Really good value for money. I can't recommend it enough

Highlight of our trip

Good place to stay. Excellent location and friendly folks. Sudha was extremely helpful with our queries. There is a decent verandah out front where you can hang with your friends. Many good restaurants at just a walking distance.

The host, Miss Sudha, was very very helpful and kind. The property is in a good location, and has 3 decent sized rooms. The host provides good breakfast options and overall it was a very comfortable stay.

Very good property and hosts

This is such a cozy place to stay in, with the view of the beautiful tea plantations and very comfortable rooms. It is great because it's a 2-minute-walk in to town and next to the train station, but still very quiet and peaceful. The hostess is super kind and helpful, she is an amazing cook and will make the most delicious meals. It was so nice to spend time with her and her beautiful daughters, I really felt at home. I was supposed to stay 1 night and I ended up staying 6 nights, so I guess that says it all.

Amazing host

Excellent place to be when you visit Ella. Peaceful surrounding, comfortable stay, delicious food and most importantly friendly hospitality. This place is very close to the Ella town, Nine Arches Bridge, Demodara, Ravana falls as well as Bandarawela. Also one minute walk from Ella Railway station.

Reviewing a year late as it’s been a crazy year but couldn’t not review this cookery class, myself and my husband got a booking with a few hours notice and were so lucky, so clean, lovely food, lovely family, and all round great experience! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves thanks so much!!

That’s exactly a good place for a family and really feel like a home stay at Ella tourist point.Friendly staff and they’ll also help you to find out the best places,best traveling options according to your budget apart from that night and morning view is great to that guest house too.

Great View ⛰

We had planned to stay in Ella for two nights.. but ended up staying four :-) First, we just loved Ella and its surroundings, but we also loved our stay with Sudha at Tunnel Gap Homestay.  She is a lovely host, speaks English very well, helps with all kinds of questions you might have.  The homestay is located very close to town and has a lovely view from the terrace where breakfast is served.  Sudha's breakfast was absolutely lovely: her banana pancake was delicious.  Upon arrival, we were served some tea right away and Sudha started baking pancakes for the kids right away.  It felt like a warm welcome from the start... and we kept feeling like that until we left.  The room and bathroom are very clean.  There are also soft and warm blankets for the colder nights in Ella.  We also liked the sofa on the terrace outside to sit in the evening when our kids were in bed.  Tunnel Gap Homestay was our favorite homestay in Sri Lanka, and is a place we would recommend to all our friends!

Wonderful stay at this lovely guesthouse

The Tunnel Gap Homestay is well located within walking distance of the town and the railway station and a good base for the sights around Ella. The host is a very friendly lady and the dinner she prepared for us on our last night was probably the best Sri Lankan meal we had on our 18 day trip.  The rooms were clean, the water warm and the hospitality first class.  What's not to like about this place?

Great host, Great Food

This gem of a place is made so special by the delightful Sudha who will make you feel like part of her family. We stayed for three nights and each morning had a delicious breakfast including amazing fluffy banana pancakes and a variety of Sri Lankan foods (though more western options were available should we have wanted them).
The room was cosy and full of nice little thoughtful touches, with a private bathroom and hot shower.
Sudha and her family were great - we were able to completely relax without any fuss, but they were always there to help if we needed anything.
The comfy sofas on the veranda were the perfect spot to watch sunbirds dart between the flowers and listen to the frogs as the sun sets!
The highlight of our stay (and possibly our trip) was Sudha’s Sri Lankan cooking class. We cooked up a feast of curries, condiments and snacks, with the whole family joining in to share a genuine passion for food that left us with full bellies and warm hearts.
