Sunway Resort

Having spent 3 nights already at another beachside guest house, someone recommended Sunway to us and we went over to have a look. For the money, the rooms were spacious had good A/C and some bathrooms had hot water. Generally the place is a higher standard that similarly priced rooms we saw elsewhere in Arugam. There were a few issues - powercuts, slow wifi on occasion and some of the doors were hard to lock. After two weeks travel in Sri Lanka these seem pretty common issues. Even the $90 hotel we stayed in had a bathroom door that wouldn't shut. Having said that, the place felt very safe, is clean and spacious and Shamal's family that run it were lovely. We wanted to go on a safari so they arranged one and came with us. It worked out really good value and we had a briliant time, sleeping under the stars in Kumana national park by a river with the whole family round a big fire. They organised us a great surfing lesson with a proper instructor (we'd already had a hopeless one - there are many in Arugam!). They booked our onward travel and checked up on our progress finding somewhere to stay the other end. They really were just very caring and helpful folk and I certainly stay there if I go back.
