Had one night in Madrid, and it was my very first time in the city, so was unsure where to stay.

Looking around online trying to find a hotel in a city I had never been before proved hard, as most the hotels seems dotted in a area well outside what I presumed to be the city centre, and I was looking for something I thought would be half way between the train station and the city centre.

I decided upon Hostal Dulcinea, as it looked to be in a spot that suited me.

Had I know the lay out of Madrid better, I would come to relise that I was in the perfect spot, and was right in the heart of the city, as I was well within walking distance of all the main attractions, and only used Bolt/Metro once my whole time in the city.

Madrid is a city made for walking and you will have the perfect base in this hotel.

Maybe a little hard to find, and while I would not say its a Hostal, its a low key hotel with a very home-ly vibe to it.

Staff are really friendly, and you are sure of a friendly welcome.

I only had one night in the city, but this hotel ticket all the right boxes.

Would have no problem staying here again when back in the city.

Excellent hotel to base yourself for seeing the city.

simple, straight forward (though the instructions for finding the door on the 2nd floor could be better), clean, helpful, friendly. The room was small but perectly adequate.  the main point is that it is so close to the Prado and other museums and in the heart of an area with excellent restaurants and bars.

Hostal Dulcinea is located in a quiet street, 5 minutes walking from the main museums and nice areas like the Plaza Santa Ana. We went up with a charming small elevator and were cordially wlcomed by the manager. The room we had was basic and spotlessly clean. The bed was however a bit small for a Northern European like me. And alas: one point off for the cold shower in the morning. If the hotel would invest a bit in the amenities it would become really excellent.

Great location, better amenities expected

 Excellent location. Family run hostal by very nice folks. Very clean, comfortable. Excellent value. I booked several higher cost hotels in this area in the past but will return to this hostel on my next Madrid trip.

This hotel is excellent - it ticks all the right boxes. And the marvellous thing is that we last stayed here 15yrs ago and still find it suits all our needs. The management was so welcoming as before and we ended up staying here ten days. Well appointed quiet rooms with very comfy beds and pristine clean bathrooms - with proper baths too.  Price wise it was very reasonable - one was in the heart of Madrid in one of the most happening of areas, just a stone's throw from some brilliantly edgy restaurants and of course all the wonderful museums we had come to revist. Plaza Mayor and Plaza Ana were just so close. We were able to walk almost everywhere and even when we had to get to Charmatin railway station which is in the north, the Metro Anton Martin was just a five minute walk away. Atocha station is very close by too. What was helpful was that the café downstairs which we used to frequent even on our last trip, opened by 5am for business - so we could grab a super breakfast even that early and rush for our train to Salamanca or wherever! I can definitely recommend this lovely hotel. The husband, wife and son team who run it are the BEST!

Location Location and Location!

The hostal is located 2 levels above the ground floor, and the elevator - though noisy - works well. Guests receive 2 keys (room key and key to hostal) and a code for entering the building. Hostal staff appear to be in the office or nearby at all times.

The room was very small, but the bed was firm, and the bedding was nice and clean.  The bath had a toilet, sink, bidet, and small bath/shower. Clean towels and washing gel (that seemed to be for body and hair) were supplied each day. 

The location near the Prado and on the same street where Cervantes lived and died, was fabulous for art and literature appreciation. 

As my stay in Madrid was extended by 1 day and the hostal could not accommodate me, I had the opportunity to price other hotels and hostals in the neighborhood.  Hostal Dulcinea was a fraction of the international brand hotels - like the Doubletree which wanted 290 euros on a Wednesday night.  

The hostal had wifi and a small tv, but very little ambiance and I was not inclined to "hang out" and rest in my room.  If all you want is a clean place to sleep with a private bath,  the Hostal Dulcinea is a good choice. 

Good value near art museums

My daughter and myself stayed for 4 nights in this great little hostal. Perfectly situated for many places, such as the Prado and other galleries and museums. In a lovely quiet area yet close to many bars and restaurants. The lovely Plaza Santa Ana is only 5 minutes walk. The host is charming and very welcoming.
The room we had was perfectly clean with comfortable beds and a bathroom with good hot water. WiFi was excellent, also with air con and a little safe box for valuables.
Great value for money, and I would definitely stay there again when visiting Madrid.

Great value hostal

Stayed here on 2 separate occasions in the last few months.
Both times were very good.
Great, central area. 
Room is very clean, bed comfortable.
Wifi is very good.
People there are friendly.
Secure building.
Bathroom was a little small, but ok.

Very good all round

We stayed for a week in May at the Dulcinea.....the location cannot be beat for access to the Prado and other museums in the area. The  Dulcinea is clean, well run, the rooms are small, there is plenty of hot water, there is wifi but it can be a bit spotty. The staff are very friendly and helpful and go out of there way to assist you. There is a small but efficient elevator. The rooms do have AC, which we did not need. The windows are double glazed, so it minimizes street noise, we had some noise but it was manly from other residents who tend to slam doors. No restaurant but many in very close proximity.
