This is a wonderful quiet place to stay with a hike through woods to the road leading to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. A bit of a hike from the bus station in town, but the owners offered to pick me up if I had a phone that would work internationally. They showed me the trail through the woods and were a great source of information about store closings and Mass times for the national holiday (Nov. 1: All Saints Day). The kitchen was very useful for breakfast and supper before and after the hike (shop in town before going up to the apartments). Luxurious in simplicity. Also some history/educational displays on the first level of the farmhouse.

Great home base for exploring San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

Our purpose to visit Gaztelugatxe was nature, hiking trails, topped off by a monastery on top of a mountain on a tiny island. There are many towns with great accommodations within 45-60 minutes of this tiny island, but we decided to choose an off-the-beaten-track apartment. This was one of the best decisions we made on this trip.

As the name suggests, it is located in a rural area but it is quite easy to arrive. Clear signs are available on the main road, and lack of heavy traffic does help in making slow turns on the winding roads if you so desire.

The exterior façade hides the newly-minted rooms, replete with modern furnishings and furniture. The rooms can easily accommodate couples, and was spotless.

Bakio is only about 10 minute drive away, giving you excellent options for beach, surfing, restaurants, super markets, banking, etc.

Overall, I recommend Aparmentos Turisticos Rurales Ureta as the ideal accommodation for any trip around Galtelugatxe.

Great apartment off the beaten path

Google Maps and "AT" signposts along the main road guides you accurately down the uneven paved road to Ureta Landa, so the place is easily found. Parking is right outside the apartments next to a running stream... and a small group of (cute and generally quiet) goats inside a fencing.
This idyllic countryside hotel only has about 10 apartments in total, and you don't hear any noise from nearby roads, so it is highly recommended, if you enjoy the sound of silence and nature.
We felt very welcome. The staff seem to care about your stay. Breakfast is fairly cheap and of good quality (cereals, milk, fruit, toast baguette, Spanish croissants and coffee). You can of course prepare it yourself in the well equipped cooking areas in the rooms (toaster, microwave, 2 hotplates, fridge), but the price is fair, and the service is good.
The beds are of good quality, and the rooms have panoramic windows with blackout curtains + air conditioning, so a good night's sleep is always possible. The stone walls are thick, but the WiFi is stable enough for Netflix/HBO movie streaming.
Finally, the place has a really quiet, cozy atmosphere. You can sit on a bench and listen to the stream, or you can walk up a grassy path to enjoy the sunset from a couple of deckchairs beneath a grove of eucalyptus trees and pines.

Quiet idyllic countryside, quality equipment... and goats :)

The apartment was very nice although we suspect we stayed in the smallest one that they had, it was a bit cosy for two people. The bed was confortable and everything worked properly. The location is great, as you've got the best of two worlds: located in a rural place but also very close to the beach and city center (Bakio) where u can do all the shoping. We were very well received by the staff and were giving indications of places we could visit :) The Wi-Fi was very slow in our room. The breakfast was also amazing with fresh bread and orange juice. We loved the attention!

Great stay!

We chose to spend two nights at this location to better our chances of good weather for visiting San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Luckily for us we had great weather on both days. The apartments offer a kitchen area with limited utensils, plates, and cookware. If you plan on using this kitchen to truly prepare meals than you may have some problems, but fine for preparing snacks like cutting up bread, etc...

There are two outdoor spaces that are nice for eating and relaxing, which is where we spent most of our time when we were here. The rooms seemed a bit less comfortable to hang out in. The lighting was also limited with no lighting in the kitchen except from beneath the upper cabinets. The same for the rest of the apartment - very limited and quite dark. 

The beds were not very comfortable, but for two nights we managed fine. The air conditioning was pretty limited, for it just did not do a good job cooling the room. We attempted to open the windows for fresh air, but there were a few issues in doing so. First, the windows did not slide open; instead, they opened into the room like a door, which prohibited the curtains from being drawn. So, windows open mean open curtains. Second, the room we were in were right in front of a swampy area, so the issues with that were the odor of the marsh (not to mention the nearby farm animals) and the presence of bugs flying into the room since there are no screens on the windows. On a final note about the room, the shower was a handheld unit and the holder on the wall was broken, so we had to make the best of it.

The location of the apartments are quite a distance from the beach and I don't know if you would walk it. Also, the road it is on is not busy, but it is narrow and cars come driving down quite fast and we were always had to be cautious. 

The breakfast was good and plentiful. Mostly bakery items, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. 

So, I would not say I would rate this place as a poor choice even though we were not completely happy with staying here. Looking back we would have been happier just spending one night, but if the weather was poor than we would have been even less happy. I think if you go into this choice with the mindset that it is pretty typical with some issues than you will be fine...we just thought the place was going to be a lot nicer place to stay.
