We had the most wonderful 2 night  stay in Les Baleines  in Hermanus. The accommodation was first class & so tastefully decorated . We were only a 5 minute walk from the beach which was stunning. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for us  to go Whale Watching but Theresa & Francois gave us invaluable local information to keep us busy! We can’t thank them enough for their wonderful hospitality & would highly recommend the guesthouse.

Wonderful visit to Hermanus

We were upgraded to a lovely room with our first view of the ocean since arriving in South Africa.  There was also a large balcony overlooking the pool.  Being the only guests mean we also had a huge lounge to ourselves.  Teresa provided us with complimentary wine and beer as well as information plus breakfast the following morning.  We were able to walk easily to the closest beach which was perfect as we had already spent 4.5 hours driving to get there.  The beach was lovely and so was the cafe/restaurant.  We wish we had been booked in for 2 nights rather than one.

One night stay

We spent 2 nights at Les Baleines, we were upgraded to a room with amazing views of the ocean and a large balcony area overlooking the pool. Teresa met us on arrival and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.  She gave us her number and said she was available 24/7, she also booked us a restaurant in town.  Although Teresa made her self available we were then left to our own devices as if the property was ours.  The room itself was wonderful with all the amenities we required.

Perfect Stay

If this house had been serviced and operated as a Guest House, our experience would have been very different.

At the price we paid, it would have been reasonable to expect that the house would have been serviced.   It is a big house and our daily helper did her best.  
The kitchen lacked utensils and other basics.  
The upstairs bedrooms were well appointed and beautifully decorated. The downstairs living areas of the house are dark. There is sufficiently adequate space for 6 couples.

Not an Air BnB -  No doubt, a lovely Guest House

We have rented the entire home for Christmas and while the beds are comfy and the bathrooms are good , the home is not one that is lived in. The bedroom downstairs is full of damp- could not stay there myself. There is a lack of essential items like oven gloves, bowls ( not teeny tiny bowls but normal sized bowls) , egg boiler (the one in kitchen doesn’t work) , pots , sharp knives etc.. 

You pay a high price for something that is purely a rental with no soul and no service..only 100 teapots with no use. 

Lovely pool and view but that’s about it. 


Good but not great great 

Although slightly out of the centre this guest house was fabulous.  We had a room which led out on to the deck where the pool was.

The owner had booked a restaurant for us for the first evening (which could be cancelled if we didn't want it) but it was lovely.  A taxi ride into and from town was easy and cheap.

The second night we walked down and ate at a restaurant on the beach which was good,

Breakfast was provided - which was good and the room was very comfortable with all the usual amenities provided.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to visit the area

Great place to stay

We stayed two nights at this lovely guest house. Our room, beluga whale, was very clean and comfortable with a balcony, sun loungers and a wonderful sea view. Teresa the owner was very welcoming, with helpful advice. Breakfast was nice. Would highly recommend.

Excellent Accommodation

We have just returned from our trip travelling round South Africa. Les Baleines never fails to please. Lovely location, very bright room with nice view over to the sea,perfect. But best of all is the great service and friendliness of Natalie, the housekeeper. She is amazing. That was our 5th visit to Les Baleines and it never fails to please.we love everything about Hermanus! The town the beach ,the cliff walk all amazing. We definitely look forward to hopefully returning in the future.

Return visit to Hermanus

Very welcoming and very comfortable accommodation. Nothing appears to be too much trouble with evening meals on arrival pre booked at a local restaurant for convienience. Breakfast adequate but a little over fussy. Tea and coffee facilities in the room which were welcome with a complimentary glass of sherry ( but who drinks sherry these days?). Great pool area to relax by and soak up the sun. As others have stated it is over an hours walk into town, but you can call for a taxi on the house phone for free, which makes sense if you are intending to drink alchohol with your meal, taxi fare 95 rand

Stunning house with stunning views

Enjoyed the facilities at Les Baleines but had expected to be on the outskirts of town as opposed to nearly 6 kms out. Found it a little overpowering to come in at 5 p.m. and be told a restaurant had been booked for you for that night and whale watching trip the next day. Went to the restraint which was good although would have liked to looked around ourselves but did not go out on the whale watching trip the next day. I don't like boats but it also was the whole day and expensive.
