The place was the worst we encountered in a 12 night stay on both São Tomé and Principe.
The place had major building work.
Could hear the guests next door spitting and snoring. When they walked around our floor moved.
Price outrageous for quality.

Disappointing 

Located not far from the sea in the island's northwest is the Roça Monteforte, which now not only serves as a farm, but also as a guesthouse. Since we had booked our accomodation at the not far away Mucumbli Lodge we just came here for lunch, enjoying the great scenery at the foot of the Obo National Park.

Lunch was served on a terrace and it was - as almost everywhere here - a fish menu. We then  wandered around the roça and among other we saw for the first time cows on Sao Tomé. We also enjoyed looking at a beautiful torch ginger or wax flower by the house.

With a friend I stayed here for three nights. I liked the rooms. A good value. We had diner wich was very good. I enjoyed the hospitality of the two sons of the owner. The made our stay more than relaxed
They arranged us a guide named Cuco. A great personality. Although we didn't speak Portugese Cuco made the trip to Neves and the waterfall memorable. We did a one day trip to the Pico. The guide who took us there (Daniel) was climbing like speedy Gonzalez in his best days. After three hours we were completely out of breath, so we stopped our attempted to climb the Pico. My friend wasn't wearing the best shoes. As it was raining the hike was very slippery. So make sure you take good hiking boots with you. I recommend to climb the Pico in a two-day hike.

A guesthouse with a relaxed atmosphere 

We enjoyed staying a night at Monte Forte guesthouse.

The owner Geronimo is a very kind and wise elderly gentleman who enjoys entertaining his guests. When we arrived there, his cooperative workers were just finishing up the festivities of their annual Christmas get-together. Geronimo and his wife, Angela made sure all the merry makers were gone and we had peace and quiet.

They cooked us a sumptuous dinner for us with fish, chicken, rice and fired bananas. Geronimo kept us company at the table and narrated all different stories about his work and his country. In the morning, Geronimo was personally involved in putting breakfast on the table for us, and sat with us until we finished breakfast. He was a great source of information. We also enjoyed hearing about his large family; he was proud when he told us that he had 31 children and grandchildren! Hallelujah! 

The guesthouse room was very simple; it had a double bed, clean linen, a fan and towels and soap. The back window opened up to a nice view of the forest. When walking around the house we could also catch sight of the ocean.

We had no time to take a tour of the cocoa plantation, but one could take a walk around the area. We also noticed that people lived in abject poverty around the cocoa plantation.

I would say that the guest house would be a good place to stay for people who would like to add some cultural experience to their trip. Don't expect a 5-star hotel service. Expect these people to welcome you with open arms!

Great cultural experience!

This is an old plantation house up on the hill. It's very basic, but does have electricity by generator. The meals are well cooked and very filling, and the location is excellent to do some exploring in the surrounding hills
