Two rooms are exactly in front of the beautiful  Mertola castle. Friendly service, very clean, the rooms are a bit tiny but with everything you need (comfortable bed, toilet, cloths rack, TV, A/C). There is also a cozy lounge space , and a well equipped kitchen.

Excellent spot, with a beautiful view at an unbeatable price.

From the welcoming entrance hall / living room with seats around a typical, large open fireplace, to the simple, clean and comfortable room, and never forgetting the friendly people running it, Casa da Tia Amélia is the place to stay. Loved it!

Friendly, comfortable, like your home in Mertola

Apartments are traditionally decorated in Mertola style which is absolutely amazing and we were enjoying every minute there... All apartments have parking spaces and breathtaking view to the fortress and village... Landlady also recommended places to visit and eat... However, kitchen is equipped well so you can cook there also.. best part are prices of accomodation - more than a fair! If you like rural tourism and want to check Mértola and Guadiana river, Casa da tia Amália is definetly great place to rent!

Great ambient and amazing vibe

Not much English spoken here, but it didn't matter. The hostess was super friendly and the room was quite nice, and air conditioned in a Portugal heat wave. The breakfasts - served at a nearby restaurant - were excellent. Some rooms don't have a castle view, but the restaurant has an amazing view and is also very good for dinner. The inn is located in a very quiet area across the river from Mertola -- probably too far to walk but an easy drive over the bridge.

We stayed 3 nights at Casa Tia Amalia (end of april, low season).
Welcome was extremely 'basic' (information only in Portuguese and difficult to understand, despite me speaking French, Roman language). 
No breakfast was served due to limited number of guests (yet displayed in the 'lobby').
No cleaning of the room on day 2, entrance of hotel was closed (we were lodged in a separate building).
Room was comfortable and had a superb view of Mértola (see picture taken from the room), yet no amenities whatsoever.

Comfortable room, service should be better

The rooms are very cute, but we had quite a few problems, which ruined our stay. 
It was 10 degrees C at night and 20+ during the day when we visited (in February). The room was VERY COLD - 15 to 17 degrees C top (with the air con turned on 30 degrees!). We had to sleep fully clothed and dreaded every change of clothes. 

There were no SHOWER gel or shampoo in the bathroom, which was annoying, as with the late check-in, you don't feel like going to buy some once you're finally in your room.

THE WORST though, was the fact that we asked as soon as we arrived if breakfast was included (it was ambiguous on their website) and they said "Yes, but go to Cafe Guadiana". When we went downstairs to pay our bill, a fee of 5 Euros x person was added for each breakfast we had. Not only we weren't told we had to pay (which could have been a misunderstanding), but the price was ridiculous, considering you can have a full dinner for 9 Euros in town and the price x night was 13.5 Euros x person. 

We will not visit again.
