53 reviewsWe had such a memorable stay at Quinta da Capela!! We were warmly welcomed, and shown around the property by Regina and Carlos, who were really lovely people and perfect hosts. This is such a beautifully preserved historic building, full of interesting antiques and artefacts, in a totally stunning setting. The experience of staying here is totally unique, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy the real Madeira. Regina's parents restored this glorious building from a ruin, and it exudes the love and warmth the family clearly feel for it, and it felt like our home for the time we spent there. The garden has lots of places to sit and chill, and amazing views of the coast and the mountains. The house is spotlessly clean. The breakfast will set you up for the whole day, offering a delicious array of treats, including exotic fruits and home-baked cake!! The only access is a grand stone staircase up to the house, with parking on the quiet, rural street below. I would poetically say, it was indeed like a staircase to heaven!! And we found it no problem to walk up and down, and we are in our late fifties. The area around here is stunning, and a completely different world to the hectic, touristy Funchal.
