Once an international traveler's fave, new owners have soured a classic. Price hike, unresponsive service, no breakfast - not even coffee available, noisy, paint smells and  Wi-Fi in the lobby only. Getting there, I had problems with cancelled flights. They charged me 2 nights for 1 night stay. The disinterested receptionist was really a spoiler, as well. Will look for new options elsewhere!

Wonderful treatment at Hotel España, a hotel full of history and very interesting.  Heart of Lima, close to Plaza de Armas.

Historic Hotel at Lima’s Heart!

Let’s start with the good things:

Good location in the heart of Lima
Beautiful decor in parts of the hotel 
Cheap 

That’s about it. 

Be aware that the rooms are box like, beds are unclean, rooms are dirty, no fans or air-conditioning, security in the rooms isn’t great (would NOT recommended for a solo traveller) and the breakfast in the morning was pretty awful (it can’t be that hard to make an egg).

Point here is that although the pictures make it look like a beautiful boutique hotel, the rooms are so bad that you should definitely think twice before booking here (especially after an 18 hour flight like we did when all we wanted was a clean secure room for the night!).

Nice decor, terrible rooms

This hotel is located within walking distance of so many historic sights and great restaurants in Lima.  The hotel building itself is interesting and historic! The staff here are very kind and helpful. I would definitely visit here again.

Excellent Location

The hotel is located in a period property right in the old town, with many places of interest within an easy and short walk. Rooms are different and so is their decoration or size, but as far as I could see they are well kept and clean. I asked for a quieter room, as I was coming after a long haul flight, and they gave me one on the last floor, which was great. And then, as the streets around were fenced off by police for security reasons, it was even quieter. The terrace on top is also very nice. Staff were kind and helpful. I cannot comment on their command of Engligh, as we talked in Spanish.

A place full of character in central Lima

There is no English speaking people that i spoke to. There is no breakfast included with the room. The lady at the front desk was rude. There is no help with the luggage for the elderly. The price goes up when you are North American. My first experience here was decent, but it appears ownership changed, and so did the service. Not sure but it also appears to be gay people running the hotel.

Bad Bad Bad

An und für sich hat das Hotel alles was man braucht und sämtlicher Luxus ist hier nicht vorhanden. Das ganze zwingt ein förmlich nicht im Hotel zu bleiben sondern raus zugehen und Lima zu erkunden. Da das Hotel ziemlich Zentrums nahe ist kann man hier schnell mit den Bus und die verschiedene Stadtteile reisen. Fußweg in die Einkaufspassage etwa 5 Minuten. Wer einfach und günstig übernachten will kann hier gerne nächtigen. Freundliches Personal das gerne weiterhilft und immer nett ist. Verbesserungspotenzial wäre in Sachen Frühstück angebracht da man am 3 Tag das ganz nicht mehr so gerne isst. 

In and of itself the hotel has everything one needs and all luxury is not available here. The whole thing forces you not to stay in the hotel but to go out and explore Lima. As the hotel is quite close to the city centre, one can quickly travel here by bus and the different parts of the city. Walking distance to the shopping arcade about 5 minutes. Those who want to stay overnight simply and cheaply can spend the night here. Friendly staff who will gladly help you and are always nice. Improvement potential would be appropriate in things breakfast since one does not eat on the 3 day completely so gladly any more.



3 Tage in Lima/ 3 days in lima

An old hotel, no heater in the room and hot water for shower. And the wifi did not work in room 301. The only positive side is the location which is close to the main square and attractions in historic area.

No heater and hot water

The first was a shock I did ordered taxi from the hotel web sides from the airport $25to the hotel.The driver after couple min driving asked me for gas money as he did not have any and gas as well! The staff in the hotel did not speak English it was a young man. You can hear everything in the hotel. The rooms are very dirty and the cup webs everywhere. Internet does not work.

Hotel Espana AVOID!!!!!

We used this hotel as a pit stop between flights as it was in an area closer to the airport than Miraflores.

Location was good and price was okay but that’s about where it ended 

We found the bathroom and room to be very cold and no heater was around, the power sockets were at such a high level to the unit that you couldn’t charge things very easily as they didn’t lock so would just fall out. The Wi-Fi although had multiple access points was very poor and we only found a good continuous connection in the reception area with the one in our area only working for about 10mins of the time that we tried to use it. The room itself had a very thin door and windows so you could hear everything outside which also didn’t help when we needed to get some sleep after a long flight.

Cheap yes and in a good location but other than that not really worth it especially in the winter
