Really nice hostel , great staff, nice pool table and a really awesome dog who keeps you safe at night !  The place lies a bit out of town which is gives you a really nice overview of the city and you can also see the skyline of foz de iguacu (Brazil) from the rooftop. Make sure you check that out. 

This hostel has the biggest & best kitchen we've witnessed throughout our SA travels so far. The room is also very spacious & the air-conditioning works perfectly. The pool is kept spotless, we saw it being cleaned at least twice a day, it looks very inviting! Friendly staff as well. It is a bit of a hike to the supermarket, so try to bring food with you or ask the staff if anywhere does delivery. We paid 30,000 Paraguayan Guarani each way to & from the bus station. 

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the right decision booking this hostel. After the chaotic border crossing from Brasil it was a pleasant surprise when Victor, the owner opened the door & we stepped into tropical paradise. People relaxing by the gorgeous pool surrounded by a lush green garden. We were welcomed into an extremely clean, air conditioned double room with views of the pool & garden. The shared bathroom was new, clean & really funky! From the rooftop terrace we shared a beer & watched the sunset then went down to play a game of pool. When we needed some time to chill by ourselves there was plenty of different areas on one of the 3 levels. This hostel has it all: swimming pool, Wifi, free breakfast, free towels, kitchen & dining area, air conditioned rooms, BBQ areas, roof top terrace, plenty of space to relax & is probably the cleanest hostel we have stayed in. Some people might say the 20 minute walk into town is too far but I can't imagine who on earth would want to stay in a hostel close to the crazy, chaotic city when you can stay here overlooking the trees & hills around the city. There is nothing we disliked, only that we didn't book longer.

I don't know Ciudad del Este very well but to me Casa Alta Hostel has an advantageous location of being both quite far from the chaotic border area and at the same time close enough to it to reach the Hostel on foot. It is also pretty close to the Lago de la Republica.
Common areas and rooms are spacious with a snooker table in the recreation area; breakfast is decent and Victor (an employee) speaks perfect English and is willing to help.
The only thing we did not like was the leaking common shower which should have been replaced the day before yesterday. 
All in all, a cheap and convenient place for 1-2 nights. 
P.S. Oh, the wi-fi in our room really sucked.

Great kitchen, pool, room & air-con!

Tranquil hostel in a city of chaos!

Great! Especially if compared with the chaos at the border.

Spacious reception. Nice pool. The dog is aggressive. Bit my girl on the arm and pierced her skin (to be fair they cleaned the wound appropriately) but one of the workers stamped on the dog as punishment - probably the worst thing he could have done and not what you want to see when you first enter a hostel. In the morning I used the milk of the staff rather than the breakfast milk by accident to poor myself a bowl of cereal and throughout the day they brought it up, telling me one bottle is 4000 guaranee (less than one dollar). When we brought up how insignificant it was she said it annoyed her how ´my people' come to her country and think they can take take take. Felt uneasy from the moment I came in. Not to mention, Ciudad del Este is good for buying cheap elctronics and as a stop off point from Iguazu to Paraguay. Not worth the trip for ANYTHING else.
