This little hotel was a very good find! 
We only stayed there for one night but really enjoyed it.
The room and bathroom were lovely, dinner very good, breakfast idem and the owners were helpful and friendly.
The hotel is in a very quaint street lined with museum-style shops and is only a few minutes' walk from the beautiful main square.  There's a small bakery opposite the hotel but apart from that, it was very quiet when we were there in November. It must be lovely in summer and you can drive to the beach in ten minutes. Groede is also close to the town of Sluis where you can find a windmill and everything open on Sundays. We would love to return in summer.

Service and style

On arriving at the guest-house were immediately offered a drink in the bar and given some guides to the area and the the village of Groede.  Groede is so picturesque and the street immediately behind the guest-house is full of museums and other little treasures.  

Our room was spotless with a huge bathroom with shower.  There is a TV in the room which picks up English channels as well as the local ones and we were given a gift of a bottle of their own house liqueur.

The guest-house has it's own cafe with a large variety of drinks as well as food.  Everybody, whether staff, visitors or locals, were so friendly and we felt very welcome.  It was interesting to see how effortlessly the owners switched between Dutch, German and English depending on to whom they were talking!  I almost wished I could speak French to see if they could speak that as well!

Breakfast the next morning was cheese, cold meats, jams and bread and rolls.  Plenty there and you certainly won't go hungry, all washed down with strong Dutch coffee.  

Although we didn't make use of it, you could hire bikes further down the street and that must be a perfect way to see the village.  In the event we walked round Groede - which is easy to do as it's so compact.  The streets are narrow and the houses quaint and well decorated.  Sitting out on the village square trying out all of the different beers whilst watching people go about their business is one of the pleasures of life on the continent, and something I could do for hours!

This was a good break in a beautiful area some 2 hours away from the channel ports.  There was far more we could have done had we had more time and will certainly return.
