This review is regarding lunch only.Mediocre food.The meal consisted of chicken and couscous.Chicken was scant.There was a packaged style biscuit and tea offered at end of meal.The hotel has seen better days.

Lunch Stop

On a recent day visit we went on an organised bus trip around Tangiers and went to this hotel for 'mint tea and a biscuit' refreshments. That being said it was actually used as a toilet stop as there are not (as far as I could see) any public toilets available. Even then we had the normal request for a money to use same. The hotel itself appears to be run down and typically aging with old and battered cars under cover in the car park. I can't comment on what the rooms or rates are but I would not consider staying at the Hotel Ahlen if I were to stay in Tangiers (which I must confess is unlikely).

Toilet stop

We went on an all day excursion with TransAndulican Tours -  we stopped at the Hotel Ahlen for lunch. This was an integral part of the Tour, promising an authentic experience. In truth this was a ‘packaged’ touristy experience. First we were told we would be in a tent. It was, but effectively it was a canvas banqueting set up, one of two identical facilities in the hotel grounds capable of holding 200 people each.  We were promised a display of horsemanship – 2 stationery horsemen dressed in traditional costume – and musicians and belly-dancing. We also had lunch, this consisted of a vegetable soup followed by chicken and a plate of vegetables and cous-cous. Grapes for dessert, mint tea and a macaroon. These were claimed to be authentic Moroccan food – It was tasteless and greasy. The macaroon had a most peculiar taste.

Not quite what we were expecting................

As far as hotels in Tangier go this is a good hotel to stay in.  Cleanliness is not regarded highly in morrocco neither is service so for the the price this is a great hotel.

Not a pleasant stay, very disappointed.

The Hotel Ahlen definitely needs to be overhauled/upgraded.  The carpeting is stretched and soiled in the common areas; the bedrooms need better cleaning and more upscale furnishings; the tiny balconies need chairs; the bathrooms need better shower fittings and better caulking around the tubs.  The personnel were friendly, and the hotel is in a fairly OK location.  Breakfast was bleak:  very minimally acceptable.  We would not recommend this hotel.
