2 stars might be a little hard on them, but there are just so many things they do wrong that could be corrected by a manager that has at least some experience running a hotel.  It still might be worth coming here for only 2 nights to see the amazing location. 

First the good.  The place is on a remote dirt road several miles from Tzimol.  The grounds are immaculate with a stream running through the property that has been split which creates beautiful streamlets with small falls and nice sounds.  Lots of birds.  Ground crew are friendly and do a great job.  The river that creates Chiflon falls further downstream flows at the bottom of the property so you have small falls and beautiful azure pools to swim and relax by.  Yes...that part is awesome. 

You are a guest/prisoner here if you don't have  a car.  There is a big sign to not bring any drinks or food.  Rooms are kind of  interesting, but there is only a bed inside. No chair, table, end tables, lamps, nothing.  The roof is metal facing the west, so they get very hot in the evening.  You can open the door or window, which do not have screens (CDA - if you are reading this - get some screens---easy!!!) to cool it off at night, but there are lots of mosquitos.  I asked for a fan, but the receptionist told me they have no fan. To just cover yourself with DEET before you go to sleep, which we won't do.  Needless to say we were covered with mosquito bites. 

Water and internet are usually 2 things provided by hotels.  Internet was spotty.  I asked for water for 4 of us, and was handed 4  eight ounce plastic bottles of water.  No water to drink in the room, and no dispensers available.  Later on I asked the bartender to fill my water bottle for me, and he did.  (CDA - if you are listening, provide dispensers near the rooms so guests and drink water and brush their teeth).  

About the food.  While I can't say for sure the cause, 3 of 4 of us have terrible travelers  gut problem, if you get my drift.  Menu is limited and any protein seems to come from frozen Sam's Club supplies.  Lard seems to be one of the main staples here in the beans and used for eggs, etc.  Lots of pork options.  Fruit plate was fine though.  Fresh OJ was good.  Dinner options for us included badly fried shrimp, frozen salmon (tiny amount), pastas, and salad.  While the food was better than a remote tea hut in Nepal, it was pretty bad for high end hotel.  There was one waiter. The first night we were there, it took over a half hour to come and get our order, and another half hour to get our meal.  Once there was 2 other tables with people the second night, it took over an hour to get a beer, and 2 hours to get our food.  Same scenario for breakast.  Since you can't bring your own food ( you should though bring some snacks and hide them ) you will spend several hours per day sitting a a table waiting for it.  

They do not come a clean your room.  You have to ask them each day to come an turn on the hot water heaters so you can take a shower...sometimes twice because "I am sorry, I forgot",  You have to try and find more toilet paper due to the travelers problem as they don't restock it.  You won't get clean towels or a bed made. 

it seems this place is used for local photography for weddings, etc, so it might be very busy during the day.   Don't even think about getting lunch ( 3 hour wait).  

CDA( you could be so much better...it is sad.) And whoever designed this place is a genius...maybe that person sold it or passed away...sad)

Disclaimer..I am a world traveler and have no interest in damaging this property...I just wish someone else would have let us know before hand.

Amazing location...need to learn how to run a hotel

I would NEVER stay here or recommend it again. We booked Cabin 5 for 4 nights. We left after 3. Huge spiders in our bed 2 of 3 nights. Pool was disgusting and never cleaned. No room service cleaning our room. Bathroom floors were gross. Food was very good though. Oh and NO hot water. None. Zero. For 36 full hours. I imagine it used to be nice. But it is VERY tired and dirty. Someone should buy it. Clean it. And turn it around. The falls just past our cabin are worth everyone going to see if staying here.

Such an incredible place! We wished we could have stayed longer!So many beautiful waterfalls, ponds, lush gardens, majestic views of the mountains, cute palapas with hand crafted furniture, friendly staff and great food! We’ve been traveling through Mexico for years and this is been one of the nicest surprises off such a beaten path!!

We couldn't find the place so we didn't spend the night, It was getting dark. The next morning we aryed it again but because of road repair we still couldn't find it. I wasn't going to Tzimol with out look at this place, So what I did I got a cab  driver and followed him up the hill. I am so glad we went because this place is so beautiful I highly recommend it  even if you just go eat the staff was very friendly with us. I walk down to the water asd just fell in love with pleace great place to just sit and enjoy the view and listen to the birds , the wind in the trees and the waterfall. I love it so very much we would like to buy property here Tzimol is a very nice little area. Remember if you are going to canto del agua better to pay a cab. for only $2.00 dollars all thought when we was lost we found an agra called ojo de agua beautiful place & trees make sure you go pictures posted.

Beautiful Place

I would do this one differently if I had the choice.  We were delayed on our road trip there and got in too late.  It would have been way better if we'd had a chance to arrive earlier and enjoy the grounds because the place is really beautiful and deserves a day or so to just chill and look around.  

Despite being used to early closing hours the management was very nice and accommodated our late arrival (a whole other story) and had the restaurant stay open late.  They're all very nice people btw even though we were probably difficult guests.  

One small knock on the rooms was that the plumbing didn't work in our cabin but if we had arrived earlier they probably could have addressed that.  BTW if you are looking for a really luxurious place this isn't for you but otherwise it's very cool.  The way they work the site into the environment is clever and something to be appreciated.     

The food at the restaurant is really good, the site is gorgeous, and the town surrounding the lodge is very interesting.    

I wish I could do it again under different circumstances but I would still recommend the ecolodge to most travelers.

Take some time and relax there

A little hidden rustic paradise to really relax and unwind.

Best hotel to really relax

It is a very nice place still undergoing construction. We were there only for one night but really enjoyed our stay. You have to be in no hurry at all when you stay here, specially at the restaurant. The food is very good but takes a long time and breakfast is served after 9:30 am. Preferably cash and only one spot where internet conection or phone signal works.
