Shisuikaku Toufuya

I stayed in the Tofuya for one night in April 2013 while on a hiking trip through Japan. This is a traditional style onsen resort, with just enough modern touches to appeal to younger guests. Check in was efficient and friendly, and I was up in my room quickly. The room was very big by Japanese standards, with a tatami floor, separate bathroom/toliet and a big genkan area. The room opened up out over the river, and the view was lovely. I fell asleep on an easy chair overlooking the water in the afternoon for a doze....very nice indeed. The hotel bath is small-ish but nice enough. There are various restaurants, karaoke rooms and the like. As I was travelling alone they would not do a dinner for me, but breakfast was absolutely excellent - one of the best of my trip. There is not much happening in the town itself, so don't come here planning to shop or wander the streets. If you fancy a couple of hours of ambling by the river and feeding the ducks, though, this is an excellent choice.
