Guesthouse Hidamari Miyakojima

Good clean rooms, friendly service. 
The only down side I can say is that there is no pick up from the airport and wanting to save money I walked 4.2kms to the hostel. It was do-able, but I ended up having blisters on my right foot.
Also, if you don't really speak Japanese it would be difficult to stay there. However, they love foreigners and try their best to talk to you in Japanese. I had a great time and with my limited Japanese would love to come back here again!

Nice clean getaway

Hidamari guesthouse is a guesthouse run by a host with some other staff helpers. People are friendly and do talk to you, but most of them cannot speak English at all. So communication for foreigners is definitely a challenge here. 

While the guesthouse provides decent single and double rooms (equipped with air conditioners during the insanely hot summer periods on miyakojima), the shared dormitory rooms are rather poorly equipped and reminds of old schooltrips with a bunch of kids. 

Further, toilets and showerrooms are shared, which is quite common in guesthouses. However I felt a bit uncomfortable about the smell, especially in the men's toilet.

One additional point is that it requires at least a bicycle to get to popular places like the beaches. By foot, you cannot go anywhere special without killing yourself with the hot temperatures. However, the guesthouse is at least close to numerous small shops and convenient stores.

In a nutshell, guesthouse hidamari is a cheaper alternative, and could help you improve your Japanese language skills when you talk to the people, but for those who have more budget at their disposal I would  definitely recommend a better hotel ... I mean at miyako you are not doing language exchange, you want to enjoy the island at its fullest!

A cheap alternative to common hotels, but do not expect decent facilities and good speed WiFi.
