Loved the location - right across from fish markets which is what we wanted. Nice Firm mattress on which I slept great, small room and step up Japanese Toto bathroom. Would stay again..,spend your money on food as Hakadate has the best seafood I ever had and I live in the ocean!

Great economy stay

Property was convenient for walking to all the bay area. I found that it was a bit tired and the room needed refreshing.

At first you will be wondering about this hotel. Because it looks old but the location is really strategic. Opposite the morning market and the lobby is located on the second floor. The ceiling is quite low.

The elevator is small but still working well. Easy check in.

We booked a room for 5 people, the room only with 2 twin bed sharing and a space that cover with futon and a pile of matras and pillows. Bathroom is small but still ok. Not so much space in the room. 

They provide hat/jacket hanger, TV, kettle and standard bath facilities (brush, razor) and simple kimono

Enjoy the town by walking from port to ropeway. In the night, the town quiet, we hardly see other people walking around but it's safe. In the morning, you just walk across the road to stroll around the market. They sale fresh fruit,  variety fish or seafood and there's local coffee shop too.

old but clean hotel

Very old building and facilities.  Room was very dated, very small and had an old, very dated apartment feel.  My wife could not 'relax' due to the room.  We asked the front desk whether there were any other rooms available but were told no, although the website still showed rooms as being available. We eventually left and checked into another hotel down the street.  We were very disappointed in New Ohte and would not recommend.

Very old facilities.  Not recommended

Clean, but bed was hard and pillow very flat. Quite a good price, right opposite the morning market. Room service is provided, however you need to request it on your door. Which is fine, but we followed the instructions only to find out when we were back that they didn't do it! They just left a bag with new towels on the door and left a note that we hadn't requested it (they flipped the door sign to do not disturb)I wasn't too fussed about it as I only required towels but it did leave a bad taste

The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the JR Hakodate Station (step out of the station, walk past Double Tree by Hilton) and if you look hard enough, you'll see the hotel's name at the top of the building. 

The rooms are clean even if a bit old. The windows can be opened in case it gets too hot in winter. Heater can be controlled / turned-off if needed. Yukatas are provided and changed daily. Beds are too firm which is quite typical of Japanese hotels

As most mentioned, it is right across the morning market. There are a handful of restaurants nearby that are open past 3pm.

The tram is about a block away which is the main access to the sightseeing spots. 

Will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Hakodate.

Hotel staff are helpful friendly. However facilities inside hotel room are quite old.. there's a laundry room where you can 
Do your laundry. location is good. Walking distance to train station and market.

Review of New Ohte Hotel

The place was amazing. The location is absolutely great, takes only 1-2 min walk from Hakodate Station. The hotel is center to iconic places such as Red Brick Warehouse which only takes 10 mins to walk. Many convenience stores nearby. The hotel allows both bag drop before check in and even after check out while you wait for your next train. The rooms smallness matches the picture. However it has all the necessities you need. Overall an absolute must stay for budget families/friends who want to experience Hakodate without ripping their wallets at hotels.

The hotel is 170 m (5 min walk on slippery icy grounds) from JR Hakodate station. Even though our Triple Room was on Level 3 facing the Morning Market, there was no traffic noise at all. Everything in the room looks old but they were in good working condition. My only issue was that I could not get the right temperature at the tap: it was either to hot or too cold. Getting around on the tram was easy as Ekimae  tram stop was only 2 blocks away. The room rate was the lowest of the 5 hotels we stayed during our entire Hokkaido trip.
