Hilton Garden Inn Venice Mestre San Giuliano

We finished a cruise in Trieste, Italy early in the morning. After debarking, we walked about 20 minutes to the Trieste train station, where we bought tickets aboard a Trenitalia train to Venezia-Mestre for about 25 euros each. We called the hotel, and they would have sent their shuttle to pick us up, but it was unavailable. They suggested either a taxi (about a 20-minute ride) or a city bus for 1.5 euros each. The hotel desk clerk told us the bus number to catch, and we only waited a few minutes for the public bus. We got on that bus, purchased our tickets for 1.5 euros each, and about 20 minutes later, we arrived right at the bus stop in front of the hotel. The only bad part was that we were on the opposite side of a 4-lane road with a pedestrian overpass, and had to lug our heavy luggage up one side and down the other. Had we known that, we’d have taken a taxi that would drop us off in front of the hotel. There are elevators on each end of the pedestrian overpass, but they appeared to be non-functioning for a very long time. The hotel cannot be blamed, as the overpass and elevators are owned and maintained by the city, not the hotel. The hotel staff said they have been trying to get the city to repair the elevators for a very long time, but the city has ignored their pleas. My point is, we should have hired a taxi instead of having to carry heavy luggage up and down the stairs. Once we arrived in the hotel lobby, everything was wonderful! In fact, in my 66 years of life, I’ve never been more satisfied with a hotel! The hotel staff, especially Jessica, was fantastic! They helped us with information about getting to Old Venice , and sold us bus tickets round trip to and from Old Venice for 3 euros each. Once we weren’t carrying luggage, the pedestrian overpass was no problem. You only needed to cross the overpass when coming FROM Old Venice. When going TO Old Venice, we’d wait no more than 10 minutes for the 1.5 euro bus ride to or from Old Venice. We LOVED our hotel room..it was PERFECT! Ice machine near the room, a restaurant on site with reasonable price, and all the amenities we could ever want. Best hotel stay of my life, and VERY convenient to get to Old Venice! We took a shuttle to the airport for 20 euros for both of us, and were completely satisfied! I LOVED this modern hotel!
