It was on a good location, in the city centre, so you dont have to take too many steps. That is defenitely an advantage. Besides this the panorama was exeptional from every room. You see the sea, and Positano buildings as well. Gratis breakfast every morning. ( croissant, orange juice, coffee, fruits).

Highly recommended

Villa Maria Antonietta is located perfectly on Via Cristoforo Colombo.  So handy to restaurants and bars and everything you could possibly need in Positano.  The ferry port is approx 10 mins walk away (easy downhill) but as most visitors know to Positano getting up the cliffside is steep and lots of steps.  Thankfully Villa Maria Antonietta is located about one third of the way up which makes it easy to get too.  

Porters meet the ferries at the port and for 10 Euro they will take your suitcase  to your hotel.  Best 10 Euro you have ever spent.  Don't hesitate.

The rooms at the Villa Maria Antonietta are basic but have everything you need however they have the most amazing view from the balcony.  The moment you walk into the room  the view is showcased in all its magnificence.
Buses depart from the end of Cristoforo Colombo to connect you with Praiano, the Amalfi coastline and destinations up to Sorrento with train connection to Pompeii.  It is very easy to get around.

Stayed at Villa Maria Antonietta in May 2019

Lovely guesthouse in excellent location

Giuseppe was a great host. He messaged before we arrived and recommended using the concierge service for our bags when we get got off the ferry. Our bags were waiting by our room when we arrived. The room was basic but had everything we needed, it was clean, had a comfy bed and no light to guarantee a good sleep. Plus we had an amazing balcony view. We were served a nice breakfast every morning with a smile on a delightful terrace with amazing views. It’s a 10 minute up hill walk from the port but worth every step. 

Amazing views and a lovely host

We stayed at Villa Maria Antonietta in 2010 and was happy with our visit, so we decided to stay again a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately the property is very run down and the hosts were rude and uninterested in their guests.  Upon arrival I asked could I have a plug for the hand basin in our room and was yelled at by Guiseppe when I tried to show him.  When Guiseppe reluctantly brought me a plug he seemed unhappy about how cold we had our air conditioner on in the room and made grumbling sounds.  I was unlocking the door to our room on another occasion and a lady (I think his wife) came up to me yelling saying that I wasn't unlocking it correctly and decided to give me a lesson on how to do so.  We were never greeted warmly or we were ignored when we walked past the office.  We didn't receive any clean towels during our 4 night stay.  We ran out of toilet paper and when I asked his wife for more she said it is on the window sill and I explained that we had used it all and she reluctantly gave me more.  We had a 7.00am departure on our last day and I asked Guiseppe if it was possible to have an early breakfast or even a cup of coffee (as there are not coffee or tea facilities in the room) and he refused, saying it was not possible to have breakfast earlier than 8.00am.  I think that if you are running a business anything is possible if you want it to be.  All in all a very a very disappointing return to Villa Maria Antonietta.  We will not be back

Disappointing return visit to this property and hosts are rude and need to take a break

Up off the main road, but reasonable in price compared to others and has its own private balcony. Breakfast was great made by the owner with cappuccino, salad, croissants with Nutella. Way more than needed! 

Cute place with great views 

This is really quite a difficult review as we have no wish to be over critical of Giuseppe, the owner who seems to be a very decent person. However in our opinion, the Villa Maria Antonietta is at best, a reasonable guest house but certainly not a hotel that gets anywhere near to the standards anticipated, expected or illustrated on the website which at best shows the facility in a rather 'rose tinted' light.

Positano is itself, a very pretty town if rather tired and somewhat faded town. Frankly the whole place could do with a decent coat of paint. But it is a popular and friendly tourist centre.

The Villa Maria Antonietta is similar in that it is tired and a bit shabby. Centrally located, it is quite difficult to find up a fairly badly signed, tiny road and the warnings issued on booking, that the entrance is up several steps does little to prepare the visitor for the climb up several quite steep staircases which do not have handrails. (Getting down is, in poor weather even more hazardous and challenging, particularly when carrying luggage).

The rooms are pretty basic. Whilst clean and tidy, there are few of the facilities that one would customarily expect from a facility in this price bracket - no tv, no kettle, no soft furniture (just one dining chair in each bedroom) and limited storage. The shower worked well and there seemed to be plenty of hot water and the free WiFi was positive.

Breakfast is served in (another tired) room on the first floor by Giuseppe. It is adequate but there is not a huge choice with no hot food available. A large proportion of the crockery is chipped or cracked. Guiseppes’s service is friendly rather than professional.

At this facility, there is no lounge, no seating area inside or out -  in fact nothing else, so for our group of 3 couples, we had to walk to a local coffee shop to chat about the day in a soft chair and with a drink of anything in our hand.

Giuseppe is charming and does everything with a smile and willingness, but it is all a bit amateur night.

The Villa Maria Antonietta is really a basic guest house which is fine but do not expect any level of sophistication about it and we would advise being in good health as you start the journey to get into it - you do need to be quite fit.

Having booked a 4 night stay on the basis of a price band and the largely favourable reviews on this site, we were hugely disappointed and, to be honest, felt rather over charged - half the price would have been fair for what was on offer.

We have returned home and looked again at over 100 of the previous reviews that have scored this property so highly and remain confused as whilst charming, the Villa Maria Antoinette is not a 5 star property. With the published photography at best misleading, it is, we are sorry to say, and despite Guiseppe’s efforts both poor quality and overpriced.

Disappointing

We have stayed twice at Villa Maria Antonietta.  And we will continue staying there on our trips to Positano.  The hotel is charming, the location is excellent, and Giuseppe always gives great help.  We look forward to utilizing Villa Maria Antonietta in the future.

Consistently Good

We stayed here three nights recently when we visited Positano and walking the path of gods. Small room, very clean and with a beautiful view and comfortable bed. The breakfast served on the terrace was good with fruits from garden, small salad and fresh bread. The host Guiseppe, the host was helpful and explained the bussystem, were to find nice restaurants and always answered our questions.

Great location, helpful host and clean room.

I wasn't impressed by this property at all. Although it had a beautiful view (which all the hotels do in Positano by its sheer location), the villa seems more like a pension. The rooms are very small and the mattress that we slept on was marshmallow soft. Seems like this mattress has not been changed in decades. In the morning, we thought we were doing the cleaning lady a favor by not having her to clean our room, instead, we only asked her for some new towels, and her attitude seemed reluctant to help us.

In the mornings, as guests are going to and fro and leaving their rooms, it becomes very noisy.

Guiseppe, the host, seemed also NOT be in the best of mood. He seems to be "burnt out" and tired from serving tourists all day long. He needs a vacation for sure. Also, if you have luggage, be prepared to haul your luggage over many steps to get to the entrance of the property. The property does not have space to store your luggage after check- out-time, in case you want to sightsee a while before leaving the hotel.

This villa resembles more like a hostel/pension...

Great view and the breakfast was amazing however the experience was ruined by the host. I'm not sure if it's an italian thing or he was having a bad two days we were there, but everytime I ask a question he didn't smile or answer in a friendly way and then he would turn around and mumble a bunch of italian. It just didn't feel welcoming.
