Ballynahinch Castle, it's setting and accommodation are superb. However, our visit was let down immensely by our dining experience in the restaurant. Priced at €90 per person, the food was such an incredible let down. Each plate was tasteless, there was not one highlight from our dining experience. Very disappointing. Moreover, the portion sizes were miniscule.  This is not what we expected from the luxurious setting, the star rating or the pricepoint of our overall stay.

Very Poor Dining Experience

Lovely in every way. Stunning views.  Activities staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and spacious.  
The only bummer was the slow service and average food in the pub.  The main dining room was superb for both food and service.  Also, it can be a long walk to your room.  Only and issue if there is mobility issues.

Wonderful Estate

Waiting staff substandard. 
Overpriced food. 

Examples: Asked for drinks menu twice and it only arrived after we’d been asked if we were ready to order food twice. 
One cut tomato and a small handful of leaves with burrata was almost 20 euro. 
Menu said clotted cream with scones, waitress confidently confirmed clotted cream, whipped cream arrived, next waiter didn’t know what clotted cream was and the head waiter said they didn’t do clotted cream after the scones arrived. 

Really disappointing.

Disappointing, overpriced but nice ambience and surroundings

There’s no amount of gushing that would do our stay justice. We booked Lettery Lodge with a small group of friends/family, and it was beyond perfect. We had plenty of space to spread out and the kitchen was well-equipped. It was perfect for walking over to the castle hotel for a drink or snack, cooking meals, and enjoying the magnificent grounds. The flyfishers in our group couldn’t have been happier and we loved our guided hike. Hopping on bikes to roam the greenways was a fabulous way to enjoy the countryside and we felt beautifully positioned for some easy day trips. The staff were incredibly friendly and happy to work with us to meet our needs. We plan to go back again!!

Blown away by this stay

This hotel was amazing on all levels. The incredibly well-trained and pleasant staff were always ready to go one step farther if need be. No request was too great. The rooms are impeccably redesigned with bathrooms that are modern day, state of the art. 
Both restaurants served food that was delicious and prepared to exact preferences .  Again, the restaurant team was outwardly pleasant and accommodating. 
The estate walking tour is a must and Oeghan was above par in his knowledge and demeanor. 
We would highly recommend this castle to friends and look forward to a return visit.

Amazing attention to detail

We splurged and stayed at Ballynahinch Castle Hotel during our stay in Ireland in September 2023.  It was worth the money.  We stayed in a river view room and it was quite roomy and cozy at the same time.  The bathroom was spacious, plenty of storage space, the view was lovely, the decor just right to make one feel they are staying in a unique environment.    It is a converted house(manor) done up beautifully.  The breakfasts were excellent - buffet or cooked to order. The grounds are beautiful and well worth walking around, especially the flower garden in the evening.  The hotel is almost an hour outside Galway but if you are okay with driving a half hour plus to  Kylemore Abbey, Connemara Park, ferry dock to Inshmore Island, while wanting to stay in a place you never would really need to leave, this is the place for you.

We would definitely stay here again

This hotel is really magical. Amazing food, amazing art, beautiful rooms, log fires, traditional bar with live music, woodland walks and top notch service from the staff. 
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff looked after us really well, they are so attentive and knowledgeable. We are in the restaurant for dinner each night and the food and service was 5 star. There is a wonderful art collection here including pieces by Jack Yeats and Louis de Brocquy - and a book listing all of it that you can ask for and look through. There is also a wonderful book on the world’s greatest paintings. Sitting by a log fire with the rain pelting outside, a glass of wine and this book - what more could you ask for. The bar isn’t a typical hotel bar, it could be any good country bar mixed with tourists and locals. There are many walks you can take on the grounds that are signposted and a map will tell you how long each one takes and what you can see. The staff take pride in their roles and many have been there for years, but all of them were exceptional. I can’t wait to come back. 

Luxury and culture 

This may be one of my favorite hotels of all time. Gorgeous buildings, gorgeous grounds, good food, and impeccable service. Our room was simply lovely, with a wonderful view of the river. We so enjoyed sitting by the fire with a nice drink and soaking it all in. We had a terrific dinner in the Owenmore Restaurant. I was highly amused by the cloakroom w/ the Wellies and rainslickers available to borrow if you need them.

I would live here if I could

What a fantastic, beautiful, tranquil hotel. We loved everything about it. We were blessed by beautiful icy, crisp clear winter days and absolutely loved walking and cycling around the estate and coming back to warm fires and hot chocolates or a hot whiskey afterwards. The food, the staff, the hotel, location, everything is fantastic. Possibly my favourite hotel stay ever and we'll definitely be back. Mike was a great help, as was the girl on reception and the manager I think, an Englishman. All very friendly and willing to help with any query, also to explain the history of the castle itself.
