We were in Mamaling in 2018 April. The place is hidden in the mangroves, and adventure began already when we had to walk through the low tide ocean to get to this hidden gem. Run by Rose and Tom Mamaling has a great atmosphere of discoveries. Meals are arranged as social gatherings, with visitors having opportunity to talk to each other, listen to marvelous travel stories. Diving / snorkeling is superb not only because of underwater natural treasures, but also due to considerate crew. There is a spirit of summer camp in there.... Really refreshing.
We also took a walk to the village one afternoon. The path was challenging, but seeing the genuine local life was really rewarding. We even saw a football match of two (!) local teams. Strongly recommend exploring Bunaken beyond boat trips to diving spots.
And finally, Mamaling manages mosquitoes very well. They were there, but our blood vessels seemed to be out of reach for them. Thank you! 

No WiFi. Talk to each other. 

We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed 10 spectacular dives. Mamaling is a small (4 bungalows), secluded paradise on Bunaken Island. Friendly and helpful staff and relaxed atmosphere. Wrong place if you look for party, action and Gin. Absolutely right place for enjoying nature, snorkeling, diving, good food, and relaxation.

Souldiving, simply great!

We booked three days of diving with mamaling and could not be happier:
The hosts and staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, the charming bungalows were clean and comfortable, and the food (served three times a day) was some of the best we had in Indonesia.
The small number of bungalows contributed to the pleasant and familial atmosphere of the place.
The diving itself was likewise extrodinary -- proper equipment, knowledgable and compenent guides (one of them a true underwater naturalist!), and beautiful dive sites around Bunaken. 
All in all, we would fully recommand Mamaling to anyone interested in diving and spending some time in a tranquil and relaxing jungle setting, and look forward to coming back soon.

Overall great experience!

Mamaling is a perfect place to spend a couple days in Bunaken. Tom pays great attention to his guests , food is great, diving is amazing. 
Just be aware that you are in a mangrove without direct view on the sea or lots of sun during the day

Great retreat in bunaken

We had great fun while diving with Tom! The bungalows are very cozy and the food is delicious!
We highly recommend this place for divers who like a quiet place and excellent guided dives with someone who takes care of your individual desires.

Thank you for having us! We‘d have loved to stay longer than 3 nights, but our indonesian visa expired...

Best Diving in Bunaken

We had a really awesome holiday in Rose and Tom's Place.

The bungalow was nice and cozy in the jungle with a neat balcony and a chilling hammock.
The food was of great variety and really delicious.
The diving was also really great; nice dive sites; big diving boat with a lot of space and good diving gear.
Tom was also always available for a nice chat, a game of backgamon or to give tips regarding our further trip plans.

All in all we had a great time there, stayed longer than we planned originally and are looking forward to coming back some day.

Relaxing Holiday :)

We had a great time at Mamaling! Our bungalow was nice with a hammock out front to relax in. The food was amazing with a variety of fish and meat and of course vegetarian options. They also have a laundry service which was great!

We went diving almost every day which was perfect. The equipment is flawless and some items I had were brand new. The dive sites are beautiful with a lot of fish and turtles and they are also really good for snorkeling. 

I would definitely recommend staying with Tom and Rose if you love diving/snorkeling and relaxing away from the city!

Dive and relax

Having read the reviews on tripadvisor my expectation out of Mamaling were very high, and I must say that it was surpassed. My friend and I had the most amazing diving experience out of their resort. Starting with Tom, his wife Rose and the entire staff are super warm and accommodating of our request. Tom was always available for questions on email and whatsapp right from the beginning. He also offered us a room upgrade to the hillside villa which is the most spacious room and also has a partial view to the ocean. All the pickup and drop arrangements were spot on without any hassle.

All our dives were super private with just 2-4 people maximum / dive. We explored different dive sites with Lekuan II being our favorite as we were overly lucky to spot a whale shark extremely up-close. Turtles spotting was a regular part of our dive and the marine life in most of the dive sites is incredible ! Edmo, our dive instructor has a hawk eye with spottings in each dive.  

One of the downsides for us was that even though Mamaling had all the ammo possible to keep the mosquitos and insects away, we still had company through all of our night stays (but not inside the mosquito nets). Secondly, the flow of the water in our shower was very low, making it just enough to shower - but I wouldnt think much about this as it's not such a big deal. 

If you are scared of dogs, avoid to take room number 4 as Tom has 5 dogs and they are quite territorial about people going up and down to the room. They make sure they dont miss an opportunity to bark. However, thewhole staff was always available to keep them away and make it more comfortable for us. 

The food had been fresh & fantastic with each meal, with options for vegetarian as well. The freshly baked cake was out of this world. Also, they never run out of Bintangs which is great ! 

Overall, I wouldnt think for a second to book this place if your sole objective is to dive, be in quiet place and have goad people around

Fully Recommend Mamaling !

The manager Tom is very chill, his staff seem well payed for their job, which gives a nice atmosphere to the whole place. A private beach is available for snorkeling. Mamaling is quite far for the main village and the main snorkeling area so you'll mostly rely on diving if you plan to stay a fe days, which you should if you've come this far!
