What a wonderful place to stay!  Our room was bright, immaculate, had very comfy beds and a fantastic view.  The shared living spaces: toilets, showers and kitchen/dining areas were spacious and extremely clean.  When we arrived, we were given a tour of the facilities by a very lovely young woman.  All throughout the guesthouse, there were inspirational signs that were so uplifting.  We loved staying here!!!  We also took a two hour River Ride that was amazing!  Our guide made sure we were feeling comfortable the whole way.  We even forded a stream which has been on my bucket list!  This is a place not to be missed!  You will love it!

Don't miss this wonderful place to stay!

We had a very good riding experience here. My two young children were taken out for a very good paddock lesson run by a member of staff who was very attentive to the children’s safety and to the needs of the horses. They very much enjoyed it. 

I myself went out for a two-hour ride with Katrin as my guide. I am a nervous rider and Katrin was utterly professional and reassuring, even at times when I felt quite unsure. She really knew her stuff about Icelandic horses too.

The horses were all in good condition and looked well cared for. The equipment was also in good condition. I was given time in the paddock to get comfortable with my horse before we left and lots of helpful instructions from Katrin on the way. The trail we took was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed getting out into the Icelandic countryside to places it would be tough to reach by foot and impossible by car. 

I read the review below before we had arrived and it really made me think about whether to attend. Since we did attend, I am trying to give the most honest review I can to try and help anyone else who is also weighing this up. 

My sense of this place is that if you go out on a ride with them they really do try to give you a horse riding experience. It’s not the pony treck you might get in some places we have back home where the horse is just being led around the same track it goes around everyday.  At this place, you will have the opportunity to ride the horse and experience the wonderful nature of Icelandic horses, each with their own personality.

The staff here are happy to do a trek where they walk and lead the horses, so I guess my advice would be to be clear with the staff about your abilities, experience in advance and how you’re feeling once you get up on that horse.  It seemed to me that they are more than happy to work with you at the level you are at.  The thing I liked most about the place was that they were really up for tailoring the experience to suit our family and what we wanted to do (unlike the pony trek places I mentioned above).  

We came into contact with three members of staff during our time at this place. I can say for sure none of them were apathetic. All three were knowledgable, caring and had clearly thought about which horses to pair us with.

A great family ride

Safety is not a concern at this establishment. I was given a horse that was unruly (kept shaking its head and trying to turn back/not follow guide). The guide decided it was my fault, so my daughter offered to switch horses with me. Once my daughter was on the horse, it went rogue and bolted at Icelandic flying speed (please note that my daughter has very little riding experience). All I saw was dust. Our guide indicated that it might go back to the stables but there was nothing she could do except call Geysir Hestar personnel to alert them. My daughter was completely out of sight within seconds. I was terrified for what might happen. The horse almost got hit by a car with my daughter still clinging for her life. Thankfully she was able to hang on and survived unharmed but the staff blamed her for not saying whoa loudly enough when they finally caught up and subdued the horse. Nothing like blaming the victim. I arrived back at the stables about 30 minutes later counting my blessings that by a miracle my daughter was unharmed. Astonishingly - they gave the same horse to another customer and it was displaying the unruly behavior as it did when I was on it. I do hope they took him off before his life was at risk, too. Recall that I was initially on this horse - I would never have been able to hold on and surely would have been seriously injured or dead as a result of the reckless decisions and grossly negligent actions of the staff at Geysir Hestar. What’s more, the horses in the corral were kicking and biting each other. Geysir Hestar is not safe, has poorly trained horses and poorly trained/ unpleasant and apathetic staff. I’m afraid this combination will have disastrous consequences if not addressed. Side note - we were not even offered a refund for our rides after this nightmare experience.

Nightmare at Geysir Hestar - not safe

I hadn’t ridden for over thirty years and my daughters hadn’t ridden for over ten years but we were made to feel comfortable and relaxed on our Icelandic ponies. The trail we followed for two hours was lovely and the guides excellent. A great experience for all!

Fantastic horse riding experience

This was the most exciting trail ride I have ever been on. Typically you are on a horse that follows the horse in front, and doesn’t change pace or direction no matter what you signal it to do. Not these horses! They aren’t wild horses, but the Icelandic horses definitely have their opinions and can be a bit feisty! Some of our group had more riding experience and some less, but everyone had a great time! We did the 2 hour “River crossing” tour, and we walked, tölt-ed, galloped (!), crossed a river (which was very exciting) and toured the beautiful countryside of Iceland with the view of Geysir, glaciers, and lupine all around. Josephine and Sofie were excellent guides- and very helpful for the “less experienced” of our group!! We would love to come back and ride again soon. 

The most thrilling trail ride I’ve ever been on!

If you want to explore icelandic Nature on a wonderfull Icelandic horse, with a very friendly and competent guide - then choose Geysir Hestar for your tour. We felt welcome from the first moment. 

They matched horse and rider perfectly and besides the beautifull Nature experience at “low” speed we did a lot of tölt and High speed gallop.

The other part of the family (adult, 14, 12 and 10 years) were “first triers” and they had a perfect 1 hour trip and tried the tölt eventhough they have never been riding before. 
The horses were friendly and in good shape 😃

Fantastisc canyon tour

Went for a short ride 2 adults and 1 child at the age of 5. The child had the greatest time and the guide Emma was really good with her and gave her confidence so she ended up riding on her own, not wanting to go home. Simply just a wonderful experience!

Just great!

Great ride for 3 hours in the countryside with Freya as our instructor. I got to gallop again for the first time in years and my boyfriend galloped for the first time ever! Freya gave us a lot of info on the Icelandic horse, she knows her stuff and holds enough conversation (No silence or rambling). Professional! 
The calm Icelandic horses are ideal for beginners. 
Only downside is that the prices are quite high compared to other horse riding companies. 
Nice guesthouse next to the stables and cool yurts next door!

Never knew Icelandic horse were so nice!

I actually booked a night here before reading it was a horse-riding centre due to the location. A perfect spot if you want to divide the Golden Circle into two days - the Hestar is about 5 minutes drive from Geysir. 

Lovely accommodation, smart, clean and comfortable. Very welcoming staff and lovely animals to meet if you walk around. Waking up to the view of Geysir in the distance was also not to be forgotten!

Beautiful property, great location.

The crew at Geysir Hestar were fantastic.  Emma was our guide and she gave us more instructions than anyone has ever before.  Her primary focus was on us being comfortable and secure.  Was a great ride and the horses are magical
