Earlier we saw this nice family-hotel in the centre and now my husband surprised me for my birthday, so we stayed here for a night. The staff was friendly and the room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Unfortunatelly there’s no lift, so we had to climb up the stairs to the 2nd floor. The buffet breakfast was simple, but right. We had a good experience.

Offi Haz was located right in the centre and many of its rooms overlook the centre. Its a small family run hotel and the owners don't really speak English but sign language worked well to get checked in and for any service to be rendered. Their staff do speak English and compliment the overall requirement for a tourist. The rooms are spacious and have a great views, while the furnishing is a little dated. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, though located in the centre. The buffet breakfast has a decent if not fabulous spread. They also have a restaurant where we ate once and the food and service was excellent. For those unable to climb stairs or travel with large luggage, be warned that the rooms are in the second floor and there is no lift. The staff are very helpful and do help you with luggage though. Wifi was not great especially in the rooms.

Good and affordable place to stay

The biggest advantage of this hotel is localization - in the heart of the city. It is very small hotel with restaurant. There is no elevator there, it is important because all rooms are on the second floor. Room wasn't very clean, but it was just one night. Staff speaks English very poorly (I'm not the best in English, but it was really difficult to talk with them). Breakfast was really good, but not everything in restaurant looked clean.

Very good location

Stayed in the hotel as part of a Rick Steves tour, room #3. Hotel is in a very good location and breakfast is adequate. I use a Kindle for WiFi and it worked fine in the hotel. If you want to use the AC need to get the remote from the front desk. Room had a nice view of the courtyard. There is a grocery store within 5 min walk of the hotel.
Only complaint was room windows had ripped screens and hotel is next to a stream. Because of this we had mosquitos in the room causing discomfort.

Mosquitos

Recently stayed one night at the Offi House.  The location is great, just off the main square and right below the castle.  The rooms are clean, the furniture a bit drab and dated.  The wifi is free and worked well in the room.  The breakfast buffet had limited variety (as you might expect with hotel with just 5 rooms) and the quality of the food was average.  The shower was very small and had a drainage problem and overflowed onto the main bathroom floor.  When reported to the hotel staff, we were given a shrug and told to call "service".  The main hotel entrance is also quite small, with one or two steps down, some door maps and a high door threshold...one guest with a roll behind luggage tripped entering the hotel and fell onto the floor and ended up with a bruised face and bloody lip.  Be careful when arriving and entering the door...potentially dangerous unless you are paying close attention.

Great location, but very average with a few challenges

We travelled recently to Eger to spend a long weekend there. Being there for 2 nights with full board (Dinner on arrival day, Brakefast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, Breakfast on departure day) all in all we were able to collect very positive impressions. 

The City is a nice place to be, even if its not recommandable to plan a stay for longer than 1 day. This one day is more than enough to cover everything interesting offered in Eger. We enjoyed the nice center of the city as well as a walk to the castle. The turkish bath is very authentic and in very good condition. We enjoyed very nice hours there. 

About the Hotel we have very mixed feelings. Although the family running the Hotel seems to be nice and endouvered to deliver a good service, at many points we felt that the service is not professional. 

- Located at Dobo I. Ter Offi Haz is very close to the Castle and the Center of the City. One of the best locations in Eger. (Turkish Bath is 10min by feet, Big city garden is 10min by feet, Castle is 5min by feet, etc.)

- The room was nicely decorated. From the window we could see Dobo Istvan Ter. The bed was very soft (too soft) and contained 2 mattresses. The mattresses were sliding away from each other so that very sood a gap was built between the two sides of the bed.

- At least 2 plugs in our Room were not able to provide electricity so we had to charge our electronic devices in the hallway. 

- The floor was covered with carpet. On our departure day we had the chance to observe the cleaning lady. There we could see that she was not using a vacuum cleaner for the carpet but only a broom to clean the room. This confirmed our impression, that the rooms were not in the nicest and cleanest condition. In the radiator located in our bathroom was a lot of dust, which would have been easy to be vanished with a vacuum cleaner. 

- The food provided was in avarage hungarian kitchen and good filling. We were sad to hear, that although as full-boarded package advertised in the internet, as lunch we were offered only a soup. At least the waiter offered us double portion of soup (at dinner you get normal portion) so that weren't hungry afterwards. The dinner menu contained: Soup - Main dish - sider Salat - Dessert. Breakfast was nice and in good variaty (Omelet, sausage, different bread, Ham and Cheese, tomato & cucumber, paprika, honey and strawberry jam, cereals and joghurt, coffee, orange juice, tea and milk).

- The Hotel offered us an All-you-can-dring Wine-Package included in our price. We could chose and drink out of 5 different wines. The wine was delicious and we enjoyed it, especially because were allowed to consume it on our room as well.   

- At the end of our stay the price was a little bit higher than agreed on the phone. The lady at the reception informed us that booking on weekends is more expensive. We were sad that we got this information only when we complained the higher price on our bill. 

- The Receptionist was not very talkative. So she didnt ask us if we enjoyed our stay, if we had any complaints, etc. We re sad to leave the Hotel with hardly 2 words, especially regarding the fact that the Hotel has only 5 rooms and for sure we were known to the staff. 

- The Hotel provides a guarded Parking Area that is free of costs for Offi Hotel Guests. This is a very nice service because parking in the Center is expensive, even on weekends. The walk from the Hotel to the parking area takes 2 min (ca. 200m).

As a resume we enjoyed being in Eger for 2 days. The Castle and the Center of the City with its small streets are worth it a visit. Our Stay in Offi Haz was friendly but we were not overwhelmed by the service provided. About Eger it could be said that 20-30 years ago it was a beautiful hungarian city. it seems a little bit oldfashioned by now. The Turkish bath for sure is one of Eger's gems.
