Filoxenia Hotel

Over the years I’ve stayed in several of the pensions on Skiathos. Filoxenia (Fee-L-KSenia, say it right for the taxi), is a new favorite. It’s located toward the end of Papadiamante. The port is an easy walk, but I’d recommend a taxi to the ferry with luggage. The hotel is spotless, the marble floors, linens, and bathrooms are kept in pristine condition. You’ll find no dust or mess and I particularly liked that the floors are one height, no stepping up an inch into the bathroom or the balcony—and less chance to stub my toes every time I go there. The staff is helpful, patient, and kind. Occasionally we had a language barrier, but we managed just fine. The balcony is comfortable to dry clothes on or to sit and relax. There is breakfast available for a small fee. I’m gluten-free and it’s mostly breads and cakes. It is convenient, although breakfast is available almost anywhere in the port area. On my last day before continuing my journey I asked for only milk and an egg—if I’d figured out how to say that in Greek sooner I’d have done it the entire trip. There’s a tiny grocer on the corner with good fruit and basics to supplement, and there’s a refrigerator in your room. You can purchase bottled water for a small price there too. I’m looking forward to staying there again soon. It’s not too far from bus stop three for beach access. (Upper end of the street and turn right.) Bus stop four is the other way, but I don’t recommend it. The traffic is fast and dangerous in that direction.
