Katerina' s Studios

We received a fantastic welcome from Sotiris at Katerina's Studios. The rooms are wonderfully located only 5 minutes from the centre of town and are very tastefully decorated, each in an individual style. The small touches such as a bottle of wine on arrival and having our own balcony made this the nicest place we stayed. Sotiris was also a great host - welcoming, friendly and helpful on our holiday. It was also great to meet a fellow musician. A very special stay.

I'm not sure what is better, the service or the accommodation, at Katerina's Studios - both were amazing.

The location of the Studios is on a side street, between the main road through town and the road which follows the beach.  This is a residential area where I thought parking would be at a premium, so I found a small parking lot just down the road (towards the beach) from the Studios.  Don't park here, as I was told this is private parking.  Sotiris (the owner / operator) found us walking down the street approaching the Studios, and the friendship began.  

We were immediately encouraged to park in front of the hotel or in the private drive.  Sotiris also offered every check-in service one could hope for in such a setting.  Don't worry about his ability to speak English, as this soft spoken man is fluent.

I have never been so stunned to walk into a room in Greece.  The decor of our room was unlike any other room I've stayed while travelling around this country.  The obvious effort and attention to detail that was employed was wonderfully received.  The architectural features and decorations made me immediately feel as if I was in a friend's home.  This did not feel like a rented room in the least.

Our quarters had a bedroom separated from the sitting area.  Both rooms had a entrance onto a single balcony, which overlooked the trees separating the Studios and the neighbor.  Back inside, there is a quaint, but full, kitchen for one to make morning coffee, small meals, or enjoy a well deserved drink as respite from the travel and heat.  The bathroom continued the motif of the accommodation - well decorated and plenty of space.

Also deserving a mention is Katerina herself.  What a lovely woman.  I had a pleasant conversation with her while my bother and Sotiris delved deep into music in the other room.  Continuing on the theme of our entire stay here, speaking with Katerina was like having a conversation with my grandmother -- this place just feels like home.

The area is very quiet, minus the church bells ringing.  It was a soft ringing which sounded delightful, and not enough to jar one awake.  If you use Google Street View prior to booking / arrival, you may notice a police station.  Don't be alarmed.  I heard not one single peep, and this is during high season.  If anything, it provided a sense of security.  The beach is a short walk down the lane.  Additional beaches are available by foot as well.  The town, with its supermarkets, tavernas, and cafes, is also a brief walk.  The townspeople seem to be used to pedestrians, as dealing with automotive traffic while on foot was not a stressful event.  

The beach area close to the hotel appeared to be filled with tourists from other parts of Europe.  Ritsa beach had a combination of the same in addition to vacationing Greeks.  Both areas had a definite family vibe.  I was extremely surprised to encounter the rudest beach goers I have ever come across in Greece (daily).  I am not sure if this is endemic or was only my unfortunate experience.

The rooms were in a great location (5 min walk outside the village - great advantage), with great decoration and very friendly staff. Great value for money!

I can't begin to say how wonderful this stay was.  It was a last minute booking but had read the very positive reviews about Katerina's Studios beforehand and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Sotiris and his mum Katerina really made this an exceptional stay.  Sotiris is a very creatively gifted man both artistically and musically and he has put his heart and soul into the decoration of all of the rooms which are absolutely unique. 

Each room has a nice balcony which offers lovely views of the sea and the olive groves.  The room has a small kitchen area and we were absolutely delighted to see the little extra's in the room including  a lovely bottle of wine and a variety of snacks.

Located just on the edge of the village it is a really quiet area and just 2 minutes walk to both the beach and the village.  Whilst you're here try and visit Patrick Leigh Fermor's House.  

Sotiris really helped us out of a pickle when we had to travel onto our next destination but realised there was a reduced bus service on Good Friday.  He went above and beyond what we could ever expect to help us find out the information for the public holiday bus service and also helped us get to Kalamata to make our connection.

With the snow capped Teygetus mountain as a stunning back drop we fell in love with Kardamyli and also our wonderful hosts who's kind hearts and wonderful hospitality will stay with us forever!

Great value for money. The hotel is family owned, located in a really quiet neighbourhood about 5 minutes from the towns' center or the beach (by foot).
The room is spacious and the decoration is really interesting. The view of the balcony is towards the Kardamilli bay and it is perfect for your afternoon coffee. It was a perfect room for couples.
The owners are quite possibly the most hospitable people I have met in the Greek tourist industry.
