I arrived very early in the day due to having taken an overnight train, and had previously asked to store my luggage but upon arrival, it turned out my room was available so the kind staff allowed me in early. This was amazing as a shower and change of clothes was much needed after a long train journey! My room faced the plaza area and the window opened for fresh air. I had a pleasant night’s stay!

Perfect small inn with friendly staff

Visited only the restaurant, food was good but the waiter was extremely rude. First it corrected us for sitting down when we have been told from another waiter to do so. And later make a sarcastic laugh at me just for asking butter for the bread.

This is such an authentic and cozy hotel with an ideal location. The room has all you need and the breakfast is very good. Friendly staff and quiet area with the centre just around the corner. We would highly recommand to have dinner at the hotel or on the terrace too, because it's probably one of the best in town. The red wine we ordered was also very good! Thanks a lot for a lovely stay.


Our kind of place!

We stayed for 2 nights in a clean, modern room located in an historic building.  Our train arrived at 11pm, and the host was kind enough to wait up and greet us with a smile when we walked in.  It was a comfortable and pleasant place to stay.

Terrific Hospitality

Located in a beautiful quiet square a short walk away from the tourist strip. I sat outside and was the only non-German diner which is always a good sign. Service was good as was the food. Be warned the serves are generous! If you have a chance to visit you won’t be disappointed. 

Generous traditional German food

We arrived on a Sunday when nothing in the town is open. We went to the hotel but they host private parties on Sundays so we walked in on a party with our children and suitcases. We were not welcomed at all and felt very uncomfortable. We had to just wait in the middle of this party until someone could get us a key. The room is small and nothing special. The location is fine, as would be anything in the town as it is very small and easy to navigate. The people here just aren’t friendly at all. It was such a bizarre experience. We just tried to stay away as much as possible and be quiet in our room the rest of the time. I can’t describe how weirdly unfriendly it was. The exception is the person who does breakfast who is a very pleasant women. There are many better options, so I would stay away from this one.

Not for families

After numerous day trips to Rothenburg in the past, we decided to stay a night and chose Gasthof Butz due to its location and price.  Were we ever surprised!  The room was large and spacious, comfy bed, excellent wifi, super sized bathroom with tub and shower, and even a view.  And located right in the heart of the town.  Breakfast included.  Highly recommend Gasthof Butz.  You wont be disappointed.

One of the best

We stayed here 2 nights in September and enjoyed it a lot. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was very functional. Everything seemed to be very clean. Breakfast was included and was quite good, sufficient quantity of food to keep me happy.
The location is excellent, an easy walk to pretty much everything and it is very quiet at night.
We had one meal in their restaurant  (lunch) when we first arrived & it was delicious.
The price was extremely reasonable.

Would I stay here again? Definitely
Would I recommend it to friends? without any hesitation.
