We were there last August just expecting a clean room to sleep and visit Nice and other Cote d'Azur cities.
If you are aware than this is a hostel and you are used to travel around in hostels, you'll don't get disapointed. 
Breakfast is simple but enough, and dinner food is over averaged, home-cooked and tasty. Of course, don't expect great cousine.
Staff workers are kind and try to help you on every matter, but this is just a hostel.

Cheaper, you get more than you pay

I visited this hostel with my french class. We were about 20 people, but we were the only class at the hostel. We had the place pretty much to ourselves; a whole floor in the annex where we lived, the pool, the basketball court, the dining place, the beautiful garden.
The stay wasn't awful like a lot of people have said of theirs. Sure, the rooms are spartan, there's no soap and everyone shares toilets in the corridor (each room has its own shower and sink though) and the wifi is practically nonexisting. But the view from each room is magnificent and the journey to central Nice not too long, just a walk and 20 minutes on bus. The food was pretty good, nice variation and cooked on spot. Salad, main course and desert for dinner, bread, cereal and coffee for breakfast.
So, you know, cheap is cheap. If that's what you want that's what you get.

Decent stay for a school trip

When arriving here, one is not to expect any kind of hotel standard. It's not clean, or cleaned for that matter either, like an hotel in downtown Nice would be. 

The staff is not very professional, for example all they seem to wear on their feet are flip flops, neither does the staff speak a lot of English. The manager is a little creepy and can sometimes get a little too personal in his act, so I tried to stay away from him as much as I could. Although, the majority of the staff members have been kind and I did not encounter any major problems with them.

Me and my company ate breakfast and dinner in the hostel, which was a rather good choice. The breakfast was unfortunately not much to cheer for, a table filled with some orange juice, yogurt and dry bread (as if it had been sliced the night before). The dinner on the other hand proved to be better. A three course meal with complementary bread and water, all being served by the staff. The staff seemed rather stressed out for no apparent reason, one girl was just walking around in circles and shaking her hands. I wanted to tell her to just calm down! It wasn't like there were 20 tables which all wanted different things, we were two tables consisting of maybe 25 people who were all eating the same thing.

Bus connections to downtown/the beach are rather good. It takes at the most 10 minutes to reach the closest bus stop, and the ride downtown with bus number 15 takes about 30 minutes.

To conclude, if I was staying for a long time in Nice I would not stay here. Yet if I just had to be in Nice for one night, I might enjoy this cheep accommodation. 

You get what you pay for 

Very negative experience. I had probably all of the problems mentioned by other travellers with this hostel too, including a threatening attitude from an "African guy" who was also moving me to a room I did not want, I too asked my money back and left.

Although once probably a lively and beautiful hostel it's a scruffy place now. Rooms are outdated(furniture still from the fifties) and are rather stuffy. This goes for the whole place... There's WiFi but it's slow and only works in certain areas. There is a breakfast but which reflects the miserliness of the hostel, don't expect too much. Staff is not present: I have waited in my two night stay for about two hours in total for the personnel to arrive. Last, it's far from the city centre.

Whenever in Nice, and this has been a couple of times the last fifteen years I go to this hostel but this is the last time. I had a heated discussion with one of the cleaning ladies about her poking around in my stuff. She was very rude and just downright impossible, and the other staff pretty much followed. 
I was dumbfounded and I think in the end that racism was at play. They must have taken me for a Russian or Pole (the French don't like those people very much). I am Dutch by the way...

If you want to risk racism take your chance but if your completely against it, don't go here...

Racism might ruin your stay

I once got there at around 22 and the African guy in charge, first had a funny attitude towards me, than led me through the dark to a strange room downstairs. I had already been to this hostel and knew that the main dorm was upstairs. I asked to be there instead. He said there was no place left in the main dorm. I felt unsafe and uncomfortable and asked to get my money back in order to leave. In the courtyard I met a girl who told me there was still plenty of free beds in the main dorm upstairs. That's when the African guy came outside and said in French to me: 

"Allez, allez, allez, partez!" 

Pardon? Where did he think he was? The first time I had been to this hostel he was there in the morning and I had already felt harassed by the way he had looked at me. Awful!

Needless to say that this was the very last time I went there.
