First impressions are a little daunting! The owner is feisty, comes over as a little abrupt, however if you take the trouble to  hat to her, she is an absolute character.
The rooms are comfortable, reasonably priced with stunning views. The garden, where you can sit and drink beer and eat crisps in the sun is lovely.
Food is very good here. We opted for the raclette followed by one of the best panacottas I have ever tasted.
Breakfast was plentiful and varied with good coffee and tea, meats, honey and many other items.
Overall a good experience with characterful hosts who could not do enough to please us.

Charming village hotel

A decent hotel in the valley with low cost rooms.

High points for the breakfast. 

The service ruins it. The women owner smells of booze. Her son us wonderful but needs more guidance.

I recommend staying elsewhere. One night maximum if you have to stay here.

Horrible service 

I try to avoid the word 'charming' in reviews - in my opinion it should be saved for old Italian men with a dapper suit and wingtips - however, I will bend this rule for Hotel le Solieil. 

In a tiny town/village/hamlet of about 500 people in a beautiful valley just over the French-Swiss border. We hiked from Gex, about 15km away, not a hike I would recommend but that is not the hotel's fault. Centrally suited in the town near the pont de Charlemange, it looks very pleasant from the outside and within is a mixture of authentic wood panelling and curios of old farming equipment in the bar to a more up to date dining room. The staff with pleasant and helpful and the room was fine - if not spectacular. 

The dinner was pricey at 25euros per person, though I suppose it was a buffet so should really have tried harder to get money's worth. A double room for 60euros, booked on arrival was reasonable for the area.

If you are in Mijoux I would recommend - though if you are in Mijoux you will not have a lot of choice!

Charming hotel in a Juran Valley

Booked this hotel through hotels.com the day before arriving; just to find a hotel that had somehow overebooked and couldnt help us out, alhough we had a written confirmation on our booking.

Had been in our car for 5 hours driving through Jura, having chosen this as our goal for the day. The little town looked like a decent spot, and we looked forward to the evening.  When we entered the hotel and approched the reception; we were met by the receptionists that explained that we had no room in the hotel for the night.  After this they turned their attention to other people entering the hotel; and due to incompetence on the PC; we had to wait 3 customers and 30 minutes for further attention.

There were 3 people in at the reception; 2 "girls" and an elderly woman.  The elderly woman was not sober, and smelled of alcohol.  Neither of them spoke English, and it all ended with us leaving the hotel; having to drive to Annemasse to get a room for the night.

There were another couple also being rejected by this hotel at the same time as us; but they were offered another room in another hotel in Mijoux.

I travel a lot in my daily work, but have never seen such incompetence and arrogance ever.

They even had a poster in the reception claiming them to be fluent in Spanish, English and French....brilliant ,)

This place should be avoided.

Disaster.....and unprofessionalism

What a lovely hotel ! My husband and I arrived on the last Friday in February to a warm friendly welcome , our room was warm and cosy and just what you would ask for in this small skiing community . We ate in the brasserie bar two nights and it was superb, the tartifle was delicious and everyone was so helpful and between our little French and their little English we had a great time and an even greater laugh. The lady owner was always on hand to help ,answer all our questions and always asked if we had had a good day . We ate in the restaurant on Sunday night and what an experience !!!! The Raclette is the hotel speciality and wow was it special ,a must try . This hotel is a little cosy gem and we will be trying it again , they have a pool !!!!! So I think the summer months beckon !
