If you are exploring the southern Alsace region, the tiny beautiful village of Bergeim and this “Gite” is the oerfect solution! The hosts are lovely and welcoming and their sweet dachsund Lila as well. German and French spoken and English is good enough. The place is charming and quite clean and the 3 rooms they let out (+ 2 self catering flats) are all rather spacious
However it is the truly fabulous breakfasts they serve that seal the deal! And at 10 euros per it is a steal - several homemade jams, stack od crepes and tartes as well as a large selection of cheeses and coldcuts topped with eggs made any way you like and surprises make this meal a TRUE foodie experience! Loved our stay and hope to get back in 2022!

Look no further - Chez Norbert is terrific

I love touring the Alsace region of France and have stayed here a couple of times.  The rooms are comfortable and relatively quiet considering the age of the building.  The restaurant is good as well.  I would recommend this hotel as a convenient place to stay in a nice old gated town.

A nice place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay in Bergheim and this quirky hotel added to the experience. We checked in at about midnight and the hostess was understanding and nice about it even though the reception desk closed quite early (we did notify them in advance). The architecture of the historic hotel building combined with the courtyard and general hotel decor really added to the atmosphere of this idyllic village. It is very centrally located in the village and there was some free parking around. We didn't have any breakfast or food there (ran out of time) so we can't comment but heard quite a few good things about it. The only down side to staying here is that the interior of the actual bedroom is rather standard and dated (in a non-historic sense, think old bedspreads...), and the mattress (old spring mattress) and pillows (didn't give any support) were rather uncomfortable (we stayed in the room up in the attic). Further the air conditioning stopped working half way through the night. But overall we still enjoyed our stay with the hotel and would recommend this to others if you can accept those slight detractions.

Lovely hotel in a gorgeous quaint village

Genuine style with wooden beams and a balcony covered in ivy. Great location at the main street in Bergheim, offering all peace and quiet you could wish for, still in the heart of Alsace. 
The full breakfast buffet is one of the best I ever had. Well worth getting up extra early for.
I will recommend my inlaws to stay here when they visit Alsace.


Really cosy and a gastronomic experience

Small hotel with rooms around a courtyard. Quirkily furnished, flat screen TV and shower only bathroom. In centre of the village with restricted parking outside. The hotel has parking which we did not use.

We ate in the cosy restaurant that was a carnivores dream. They also catered for veggies like me giving me dishes that were not on the menu.

Bergheim is lovely Alsace village with a city wall. Very quiet when we were there.

Nice quirky hotel in the centre of pretty Alsace village

Pat and I arrived on our car tour of Alsace. We needn’t have worried about parking – we just left the car outside. We entered the hotel through a massive studded door into an amazing world of rooms, stairs, corridors, corners, nooks and crannies. There is weathered woodwork everywhere and the stonework, plinths, and giant pots provide an eye opener at every turn. Trees and shrubs grow where they shouldn’t and flowers abound. You could explore this wonderful hotel for days and not see all of it.
The room was superb with everything you could want (apart from tea & coffee!). But the restaurant was closed probably because we were the only ones staying there (the town was quiet). This was a pity because the dining room was beautifully appointed. The lady recommended the Auberge des Lavandieres just up the road and the food there was excellent. We went back to the hotel only to find there was no bar so we went for a drink in a pub up the road. But they threw us out at 9.30 because we were the only ones in there and they wanted to lock up. We skipped the breakfast – there is no way we were paying E15 each even though it was spectacular. Instead we went to a little café nearby and had excellent omelettes.
Perhaps midsummer is a better time to visit Bergheim when there are more people about and this fine hotel would be bustling – but if you like peace and quiet...
