We stayed here for the weekend as we were attending a wedding locally. We picked it because of the location (close the the wedding) and cost compared to hotels in Aix. Given the poor reviews we were quite worried! But it was a perfectly nice hotel. The rooms where clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean. The decor is very outdated but it doesnt really matter! The view from in front of the rooms is very pretty, and the pool area is also nice. The staff were very nice and helpful. I wouldnt recommend it for a long stay, or as your main holiday destination, but if you are passing through the area its definitely worth a look!!

A perfectly decent and comfortable hotel - give it a chance!!

Our room hasn't been used for days and was dark and wet. After staying there for one night I had three flea bites. The pool was not working and is closed when most needed at prime arrival time. The whole area looked neglected, the restaurant was closed. The old lady who runs the premises is not giving you any services. After check-in we wanted to ask where to eat but the lady had gone and she was not reacting to our shouting and knocking. The only good thing - the countryside around is quite nice.

Avoid to stay

Our room was filthy. There were hairs all over the bathroom floor. The bath itself was in a disgusting state. For the 2 days we were booked in there we didn't have any hot water at all. When I complained I got a mouthful of abuse and was told the other members of the party had used it all. In fact it turned out that the boiler was broken and the electric immersion kept tripping. They wanted £26 per bottle for their cheapest wine. Unless you are a masochist avoid this place like the plague!!

Probably one of the worst hotels on the planet!!

A friend suggested we stay here because it was close to their home in Le Tholonet. I had read an acceptable review in Fodors, so decided to change our reservations from the Hotel Cezanne in Aix proper - the worst decision of our entire, fabulous vacation. 

The room we were in obviously hadn't been opened in several months. I knew there was no air conditioning, but there were no screens on the windows and no way to get cross ventilation. It was about 95 degrees the night we stayed there, so trying to sleep inside a small, hot, room with the doors closed was useless. The bed was uncomfortable and there were all manner of bugs in the bathroom. Imagine having to hose down the tub to rid it of spiders and a millipede before rinsing off with the hand-held shower.

We decided we couldn't stay the second night we had booked and you should have seen the show the daughter put on, only to be followed by a better and louder one by her mother. A third woman joined in and it was like being in a swarm of angry bees. They yelled, they screamed, the pulled out the fax I had sent to book the rooms (their internet "was down" and they couldn't respond to my email - I should have known then and there). A well-rehearsed routine, no doubt - this must have happened hundreds of times before. 

I assumed that something must have happened to the place over the past year to make it so unappealing, but the other review makes me realize that this has been going on a while.

Don't make the same mistake that we did, please.



Can't agree more with the other review

The persons (a mother and daughter) running this place are extremely rude and dishonnest. They charged us extra breakfasts on the day of departure. We figured it out and they wouldn't reimburse us. The food was terrible. The dog's owners takes an occasionnal dip in the swimming-pool!!! I came back one night at 1am to find the mas locked. I had asked directions to the train station to the hotel receptionnist when I left at midnight (she knew I would be back late). She never told me my key set did not include keys to the mas front door. At 1am I was locked out!! I had to climb over the roof of the mas back to my room!! (By the way, that meant that my husband and my kids were locked in the mas. And I found an article in the lobby about a fire that had ravaged the mas some years before.....)
You can find much better than that in Provence. The people there are very welcoming and warm. The Mas de la Bertrande is not representative at all of the hospitality of Provence.
