After a long day of travel we were hoping to sleep soundly, but the on-site (mediocre) restaurant had extremely loud live music going until past 11pm.  Room was drab; no mirror in bathroom other than small swivel; no internet in room -- only in family quarters of owners; dark unlighted path from parking area to room when we returned from our dinner at 9pm; unfriendly and brusk owner; bed uncomfortable ridge in middle.  AVOID this place!!!

We cannot agree with the other reviews of Mas de la Forge at all.  Having arrived after a long day of travel, we needed some sleep .. but the restaurant on the property (not very good -- we ate there the second night) had a loud -- VERY loud -- rock band playing until after 11pm!  The thump-thump of the bass was impossible to ignore.  So much for the quiet of rural Provence!  Things did not improve.  There is no Internet in the room -- only in the kitchen of the owners where breakfast was offered, so not generally available.  When we returned from dinner in Arles (there were no other restaurants open the night we arrived anywhere in the Camrague), a 25 minute drive, we felt lucky our cell phones still had a bit of battery left to light the way from the parking lot to the rooms.  The room was spare and a bit drab -- no mirror in the bathroom for hair or shaving other than a  small round swivel.  We thought it would be interesting to be in the Camargue,  but feel like this was a huge mistake.  We can only suggest that Mas de la Forge be avoided!

A mistake  -- could not recommend

“This place is like its own universe.” 
These were the last words we heard from Florence, the proprietor and hostess of Mas de la Forge, a gorgeous 3-room guesthouse situated in the lush farmland of France’s Camargue region, roughly 15 minutes from the ancient city of Arles. The property itself has been in Florence’s family for at least 6 generations, and beautifully renovated for visitors. Our room had stone floors and high-beamed ceilings, a large and comfortable bed, and air conditioning. The shuttered windows opened onto a private patio, and the property itself is quiet and enclosed, strewn with rose bushes, trees and vines. 
A path from the farmhouse leads you to La Telline, the excellent 5-table restaurant also run by Florence and her husband Jean-Luc where they serve fresh fish, grilled meats, vegetables and the rice farmed from the region’s ubiquitous marshy paddies.

Included in our stay was a generous and delicious breakfast - fresh eggs and yogurt, ham, juice, fruit and breads. Florence is a warm and obliging hostess. She speaks very limited English, but if you come equipped with a little French, you will likely be able to communicate. She mapped out the Camargue for us, called cabs, offered time-saving routes to secluded beaches, and arranged visits for horseback riding and to the exceptional vineyard Mas de Valeriole, both a short drive down the road. As the farmhouse is secluded, you will want to rent a car for your stay. In the morning we were greeted by a chorus of birds, and at night, because there is no light pollution, the sky is lively with stars. Its own universe, indeed.

Sweet and Secluded

This tiny (3 rooms), informal hotel is an absolute gem. It's an old farmhouse, complete with playful dogs, chickens,outdoor seating for lazy afternoons. The rooms are comfortable and the beds great. Wifi actually works effectively. And of course if you're there you're going to eat at their restaurant next door, at least for breakfast (very good -- local and house-made jams, etc.) and, if you have any sense, for dinner (they also do lunch, which we did not try). Florence speaks little English but manages to communicate wonderfully in a torrent of expressiveness and genuine friendliness. She makes your stay personal, transforming you instantly from client to houseguest. We spent two nights here, a perfect interval for roaming the Camargue (had we had time and wanted to do Arles as well, another day would have been good). They do require cash, by the way -- no credit card capability.

A delightful, lovely, restful spot. Would go back tomorrow.

Lovely, restful, friendly -- an ideal spot for a couple of days

A lovely few days here, location is wonderful so near to L'etang de Vaccares, and perfect base for seeing the Camargue and its wild-life.  Quiet, restful, beautifully furnished with much attention to detail and to our well being.  Owners are helpful and attentive, with very little english (a plus for me at having to remember my french!)  Breakfasts are an experience to be savoured.

a delight

Located in the Camargue National Park. Lovely, quiet, clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. Breakfast in restaurant “La Telline” next door (same owners). Restaurant highly recommended! Excellent located for touring Camargue. Friendly and helpful landlord and landlady, who speaks limited English. A very pleasant stay.
