Timitra Hostel

We stayed one night in Timitra hostel in a double room. The room was really clean and had everything we need. There was also a well equiped kitchen with. When we arrived we were welcomed by the owner's cute little dog. The owner also helped us to book a night in era eroo animal hide out. This host was literally the friendliest person on earth. So hand down for the owner!!

Truly friendly and helpfull staff. Breakfasts are plentifull, and do change a bit over a time. Place is an old borderquard headquarter and training center, which is converted to a hostel. History of building can be seen here and there. Lot of old items all around, owner must be some kind of a collector :) Peacefull environment just 2 kilometers from center of Lieksa. I stayed there 3 months in 2014 and 6 months in 2017 due my work. (By the way - there is a pokestop at the building :)  I could recommend this place.

Arrived to Lieksa by train from Joensuu, Timitra Hostel was a nice walk (about 2,2km) away from railway station thru the small town area (shops just slightly off the way if needed). Hostel location is perfectly quiet, interiors very interesting and nice design pieces everywhere. Room had all basics and it was very tidy. Owner/staff is SOOO friendly, helping you with everything you might need (but also politely leaving you be by yourself - you'll understand value of this if you're a Finn ;)). Rented a bike (cool white Jopo cruiser) for few day for easier access to town and surroundings. Also rented a kayak for a short trip up the river Lieksanjoki. I took a fork to right to smaller river and wetlands nearby - like a grass labyrinth with loads of birds. After kayaking I'd booked a dinner, and it was superb - main course was fresh fish from lake Pielinen followed by Pavlova with fresh berries. Loved it.
All and all had a lovely stay - soothing in one word - and hope to be back soon.
Tip; at summertime there's a waterway connection to Koli National Park from Lieksa (walk to harbour about 3km from Timitra)

We didint stay at the hotel, went there only for lunch and dinner. Great food, prepared from fresh and local ingredients! Owners are friendly, speak good english and the athmosphere is homelike. From the doorstep of the hotel you are in the beautifull nature on Karelia and the hotel is located very peaceful area. I recomend!

Easy to find, good beds, good food, friendly service. The hostel building has quite interesting history. Not suitable for people that are really allergic to dogs - there's a lovely little dog walking around in the building.

Worth visiting

We were moved to this hostel as the hotel we were due to stay in overbooked us.  The facilities were mixed gender and insufficient for the number of guests. This is not a suitable alternative for travellers who want en suite facilities!
