Odense

This place is quite mouldy. There are stains of mold in many places. The owner is not maintaining the house to a basic standard. All the appliances are outdated. The pictures on this& booking site do not truthfully represent the interior. The majority of the rooms are infested with woodworms. There are numerous holes on floor and ceilings, and you can see downstairs through the cracks of the floor. The "coffee maker" is made of pieces of tin junk. The entry to the apartment smells of cigarettes and mould. The microwave has only an on-off function, and not even a timer! Even my first microwave from 1996 looked modern compared to this odd  "equipment". The owner is drunk almost every evening and then starts using racists slur, mainly describing the issue he has with Chinese and people not being able to speak Danish. His wife was bothering us on every possible occasion with the fact that they were "not rich". The worse thing was that they were entering the apartment regularly when we were out and stole four items from us: two UK to EU adapters, one Givenchy parfum (that was open and almost half used!) and a new bottle of dead sea salt. 
We made two complaints to relevant authorities, but we want to warn travelers about these odd hosts. Seriously: steal from your guests! In 26 years of traveling all over Europe, North  America, and one African country, never had we this happened to us. And in Denmark, one of the best hosting countries in the world! Avoid  to be able to enjoy Odense!

Avoid this mouldy old house & its drunkard host

Stayed here for 2 nights, wish we could have stayed longer. Very well maintained place, everything felt perfect and thoughtfully placed. Lots of toys for children, our 4 year old just loved them. The kitchen had everything you could ask for, very high quality stuff. Breakfast was just the perfect Danish breakfast with a very wide spread. The host was very welcoming and gave us some very good recommendations about places to visit, supermarkets, food. He was always available in case we had any bought. Walking distance to almost all the must visit spots in odense. The only con was the washroom, it was in the basement, the host has tried to make it as safe as possible. It was not a problem for us though but in case of senior citizens might have to consider that. I would definitely recommend this place, perfect for a family of 4.

Home away from home

Not sure where to start with this one as Day 1 I was convinced I'd be returning very frequently until day 2 when the owner sat above our veranda, became intoxicated and intimidated myself and my family to the point where we were unsure about continuing our stay.
So on arriving, Niels was charming and accommodating, the b&b itself is the ground floor flat of a corner house, very pretty, well equipped and with access to the garden and a large, private bathroom down some (very steep) steps. I travelled for a family reunion with my two sisters and Mother and we all agreed how lovely it was. Centrally located but far enough away from the noise to enjoy some peace. The only initial issue we had was the parking which is limited and on a first come first serve basis.
We settled in and enjoyed our first day out and about.
Night 2 was a different story, as soon as we came home Niels was on his balcony overlooking myself and my family when he asked what we were cooking, no issue with that, but not long after he actually waited for me to come off the phone with my husband and then asked from upstairs 'when are you going to pay me?' and came across very drunk. He'd said on day 1 we could pay him at any point and it wasn't an issue. 
From that point on everyone was uncomfortable as he had clearly had to much to drink. He was talking loudly directly above us about 'money issues' to several people on the phone, he came into the garden several times to try and speak to my Uncle, he put cushions on the chairs even though we weren't using them, came back to take them away and it just felt as though we were being 'watched' the entire evening. We ended up coming inside to avoid him. I was that upset I walked into Odense to get the cash for him but after trying to call him to collect it he didn't answer.
Clearly embarrassed we didn't see much or hear much of him until the final night when he text me at 10pm to ask when we were leaving. I replied and heard nothing back from him, no 'thank you for your stay', 'hope you had a good time'....nothing! 6 people all had the same opinion of him which wasn't flattering, how can we all be wrong?! 
I'd strongly advise anyone (despite the good previous reviews) to look elsewhere, I take my reviews really seriously and always aim to be fair but I'm struggling to find much to be positive about with this stay. Clearly we encountered a different host but I hope they take this feedback and work on the issues we faced, there is a line that shouldn't be crossed and unfortunately, for us, it was! 

Intimidating, unprofessional owner.

If you're looking for a place that feels like home with a warm welcome, there's no better place in town. Niels makes sure you have all the amenities and touches that make for a great overnight stay. There was ample space for us as a family of 4 (2 teenagers) and we loved being close to the city center. We definitely want to come back and enjoy more of the city and stay here again.
