Lovely location south of busy Puerto Viejo.  This is a lodge in the middle of the forest and having a car is important to getting there and then out to eat and to the beach.  Hosts Luis and Sophie are friendly and helpful - Luis met us outside each night to help us see wild life.  Mosquitos are plentiful but that's to be expected.  Window screens would be helpful and we were glad we brought bug spray!  The animals we saw were amazing, including our morning gecko visitors who shared our tasty breakfasts.  Highly recommend El Refugio for dinner and hiking along Punta Uva beach.

A stay in the rain forest!

If you want to feel like you are is the jungle but only few minutes away from the beach you should book this place. The owners are super nice and the rooms are cleaned. You ll have the monkeys passing by daily… in this little jungle paradise. Highly recommend !

B and B in the jungle !

It was a pleasure to stay in this Lodge. The bungalow was directly in the jungle, the breakfast was very good with fresh fruits. Our host was very nice with a lot of knowledge about the nature around. He was very kindly and helpful.
We found hummingbirds, slots, snakes and birds at this Lodge.

A very beautiful Lodge surrounded by the nature

This place was simple and a good value for the money.  The owner brings breakfast and coffee to your porch each morning.  The grounds were very jungly and we saw lots of wildlife.  This is a good option if you are looking to stay in the Manzanillo area as it is only two minutes away and it is a nice alternative to the little motels in town.

5 stars, way, way up there because El Colibri Lodge is a real, no BS, no pretense, no greenwashing, jungle experience. That we chanced upon this place online, among all the selfie-central, ultra trendy, boozy, party palaces and yoga glamping, the Costa Rica, eastern Caribbean coast is known for, was like wining the lottery. Here's why: It is NOT close to the beach. It has NO bar. It has minimal landscaping. It is owner operated and absolutely cherished. It is PART of the environment. It has NO air conditioning. The rooms are impeccably clean. The service is beyond compare. It is the most QUIET place we have ever been to! It is the most respectful place we have ever stayed -- respectful to the natural environment, and to their guests. Not just the guests in the lodges, but the guests in the jungle canopy overhead: monkeys, parrots, toucans, lizards, butterflies, amphibians... We observed and were awed by more nature on the El Colibri Lodge property, than we have experienced anywhere! No kidding, and we consider ourselves off-the-beaten-path adventurers. The owners are in love with their tiny parcel of jungle, (and fiercely protective of it) and delight in appreciative guests who are blown away by it's awesome beauty.

Spent three nights here with my girlfriend.  It was peaceful and clean.  Tucked away back in the trees, we heard more wildlife than people.  It was a short walk to a secluded beach and we were served a great little breakfast every morning on our porch.  It was also only 10-15 minutes away from all the restaurants and activities in Puerto Viejo.  Very reasonably priced and they speak English.

This place is really nice. Like lodging in the jungle. Luis the owner is very helpfull and makes sure everuthing is fine. You also get your breakfast served righ to hour balcony..very quiet and relaxing...beautiful beach is close by with a short walk

Wonderful hospitality

this place was the most peaceful place i have ever been to. every morning i woke up and just listened to the beauty. we happen to be the only ones there the first 2 nights and it was so amazing. we walked to the beach down the path when it was starting to get dark and all we saw were hundreds of fireflies, so amazing. we also listened to the howler monkeys yelling at each other so that was super cool. the rooms were very well kept, very clean. breakfast provided in the morning and consisted of toast, jam, fruit, coffee(so yummy) and juice. this is a must stay for the absolute nature lover. the mornings are filled with hummingbirds and butterflies flying constantly infront of you.

My sister and I had the pleasure to stay at the Colibri Lodge for a week. Beautiful private bungalow that included a porch with a hammock, two chairs and a table - you will be served delicious substantial breakfast on your porch every morning. Inside, a wide bedroom (bed with mosquito net), a table and two chairs area (semi-livingroom) and a private bathroom (shower included).
The place itself is located very close to the town of Manzanillo - just an easy walk down south. Also, it is just by the greatest beach of all in the lower East coast, "Playa Grande". The Colibri Lodge always feels intimate, quiet, one with nature. The whole place is a beautiful garden maze with a path. We saw a few monkeys and toucans during our stay. A really great spot to appreciate nature and relax. Though, if you ever wish to go to Puerto Viejo, you can just take the bus; they will pass by the lodge's entrance every couple of hourl, and they are very cheap too (around 600 colones - a little over an american dollar). 
The attention at the Colibri was A1. The owners were always there for anything we ever needed. They would help us gladly with a smile on their face.
