What Costa Rica is all about! Jungle noises , howlers, cicadas, all put you to sleep! Off the beaten path.   Breakfast included.   Small pool. Worth the night spent ! Bats, cutter ants and incredible ambiance

This property is up in the rainforest, providing continuous nature contact and sounds. The front desk and those who worked there went above and beyond to communicate with me and my guest and help us communicate with local companies, taxis and provide suggestions.

Portasol is a fantastic place located in between Manuel Antonio and Dominical, is a hidden gem in the central pacific of Costa Rica. Stunning waterfalls on site, great service and delicious traditional breakfast. If you want to get deep in the jungle or seek for a getaway, this is the right place.

Best Rainforest Experience in Costa Rica

I stayed in the Casa Monos Locos. The house is beautiful and fully equipt, the only thing you need to bring is your food, somebody to cook it (or you cook it on your own) and lots of bug repellent (when we stayed, me and my family were almost eaten alive).

You definitely need to bring a 4x4 as the roads, though in good condition, are very steep and are not paved (they are built with ballast/gravel) and an fwd car won't have a nice time climbing.

Talking about what to do when you are there, well, in fact, there are many options, there is a river right across the road, in fact, it can be heard from the house, which was a plus for me as it helped relax even more. There are multiple beaches around and 2 different national parks. There are canopy tours, ATV tours, horseback tours, on the beaches close you can rent a jet ski, etc. Or just relax in the house with your family/friends. 

The pool is not child-friendly as it is too deep (unless they are good swimmers), I am 6'3" and the water covered me until around my shoulders. Though the pool is very good looking and well maintained.

The automatic starter was not working on the grill, so I had to go buy a lighter or matches, I thought I would drive to the closest supermarket (which is around 15 minutes away), but on the road, I found a small "pulperia" (which is a super small convenience store) and bought matches, after that it was all good. The grill was in good working order.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean and smelled good. If you are planning to go relax and wake up as late as you want, you can definitely do so, as the window shades won't let too much sunlight in.

The staff was friendly and helpful, they offered to help carry my bags and I told them I could do it on my own.

The house also has a fully equipped laundry room, it even has soap and all the stuff you will need to do your laundry, they also offer body and hand soap, but you may consider bringing your favorite body lotion/soap as the ones offered are not too good.

They have decent WIFI,  it is actually quite amazing to even get a connection considering how deep into the forest we were.

In general, my experience was very good and I will definitely rent the house again in the future. I am not rating the service excellent as I called them a few times because the power went out for around 30 minutes and I was thinking a breaker was tripped (though I was not even using any device that would trip a breaker) and they did not answer, Happily, the power came back on its own later. Besides that, everything was excellent.

Best hideaway place

We spent a weekend on the Bungalows, great river sight, customer  service was amazing  they took the time to talk and advice about the different activities o the zone.

this is a place I will  definitely visit again, and would recommend to my family and friends, it was like being on the mountain but next to the beach!!

Great Customer Service and the best Place!!

We stayed only one night but we wished we could stay more. The room had very big windows so it was like sleeping comfortably in the forest. 
A private waterfall with a natural pool made the experience magical.
The staff was very nice and the breakfast was good.
An excellent place to stay and rest or explore.

Beautiful bungalows with a view

We were on a jungle hiking tour (where we had to pay 20$/person)before we arrived to this place!Well this place is in the jungle with waterfall... and it's hundred times better than the paid tour!we were all amazed how beautiful this place was!

Amazing Location!

We really enjoyed our stay at Portasol Living. We booked a bungalow but got upgraded to one of the houses, which was great. The house was spacious and comfortable with a huge, wonderful outdoor porch area with couches and hammocks where we loved spending our evenings. Our favorite thing about this hotel was the location. It's a little bit off the beaten track, but it's worth it because you really are in the rainforest, which is beautiful. There are several short trails on the grounds of the hotel leading to waterfalls which are great for swimming. It's also right in between two great national parks--Manuel Antonio to the north and Marino Ballena to the south--so it's a short drive to either of those. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great hotel in beautiful rainforest

Hotel is  surrounded by nature with trails and a waterfall.The location is very tranquil.On the way to the hotel you drive through a little typical Costa Rican village where locals enjoy the nearby river.It is so beautiful!We had the chance to see toucans, frogs and other critters that we haven't even seen while visiting Manuel Antonio National Park.It is like hotel and national park at one.It has been a most memorable stay.
